Re: Re: Re: how to remove limiter?

Ohh yah, on the gutted cat note. First of all, the gutted cat came like that when I bought the car and haven't had the time to replace it which I DO plan on doing with a Y8 catalytic converter. Second of all, the honeycomb inside the cat is restrictive in a different way and is not related to exhaust piping diameter.

Re: how to remove limiter?

you're all about the "low backpressure" exhaust flow, and smooth flowing, but that huge gaping gutted cat is the same thing as a 3" exhaust pipe.

and no sir, i am not a know it all, i just know more than you.

Re: how to remove limiter?

wow, I guess things heated-up here after my post, huh? Want some more spice? I also had a ported & polished head by then and maybe the GSR guy was a wimp or his car was tired or somthin', but I seemed to have better high-end pick-up than he did.

Re: how to remove limiter?

You both are right in your own way. Back pressure is essential for keeping tourque. It helps the burn at low revs by leaving small amounts of burning mix in the cyclinder to accelerate the burn of the incoming mix. Higher flow pipes are great for high rev hp. It helps with scavaging exhaust gas from the cylinders. You need a balance between the two to get optimal results for daily aggressive driving. The car will run without any exhaust piping but will be very annemic with a low rev launch in the residential as well as be loud enough to get you ticketed in a heartbeat if a cop sees you doing it. Besides the ticket for the noise you will get ticketed for not having a cat. That has a heavy fine and all but if you are caught with a gutted or disabled cat, you will be paying for the cops daughter to go to college and in some states they will take the car as well. A cat doesn't restrict the exhaust flow enough to make more than a 1-2% power loss and if you need that back then get a high flow cat but for geeps sake, use a cat if you're going to be on the street.

Anyway, quit fighting over bs like whos the noob and go drive. That's what is about really anyway.

Now back to the original issue of speed limiters, rev limiters and gauges.....

For your gauges you might want to just pick up a set of reverse glows in a usdm layout. it's cheap and easy and will have your Mph on the outer face.

If you want to change the cut off point you need to change your ecu. Reasearch similar apps from other models ect. and their specs then compare them to the aftermarket chipped ones and pic the one that suits you. There is no one ecu that makes everything perfect in every car. It's like voting for a president. It's always picking from the lesser of too lessers.
