But why drifting? Why is it such a big deal? You actually loose time when you drift in a race. Rally is the only race I know when drifting is a must. Why not this...The brake before turn then use the outer curves of the road then get out of the curve then gun it to the straight (phew)...You guys know the drill (especially those who play Gran Turismo). But why drifting? Can someone please explain to me why its such a big deal.

Its the big "Fad" to be a drifter now. Everyone wants to drift because it looks cool.

I love seeing guysin there cars figure out how to drift and kill a $1000+ set of tires. Or rap it around a poll. Or kill there suspension.
Its like what happens when a new movie comes out

eg. Gone in 60 seconds, the car theft rate in Vancouver went up 112% the week of the release of that movie
The Fast and the Furious, street racing increased 214% the week of the release
2Fast 2Furious, drifting went from nill to HUGE the week it came out.

Now, there was a movie about bick racing and stuff, one called Biker Boys and the other Tourque. Im glad these did not catch on or we would have so many dead people strued across the streets no car could drive anywhere.

I see. Its still no big deal to me. Was just wondering why it was such a big deal. Id rather have grip like AutoX than drifting.

It does take alot of skill to drift i wouldent mind learning the finer points of it. but when it comes to the choice of being in or out of control. I like to be in control.

actually if things like tire wear werent a factor drifting would be the fastest way around a corner...not sayin exhibition style drifting at extreme angles n such, but entering corner in a slight slide is faster then braking and using grip and you would exit at a higher speed as well..but of course your tires would suffer and in the long run it would be impractical to use such a method in a multi-lap race though you do see a car "drifting" every now and then to make up lost ground or perhaps pass another car...

Thats the reason why I like grip better than drifting. Its the whole thing that you have to look at. Laps of a race, conserving tires and other factors. In the long run...you would save time by conserving your tires and less pitstops.

As a side note, I dont have any real experience racing. My only experience is racing simulations such as Gran Turismo 1, 2, and 3. So I also learn through these simulations and grip is really better than drifting.

Nope, i have no stickers on my car. Well i have one stocker that i just cant get off but its from the dealer.
I dont personaly like stickers, but i do not like when people bash others preferences towards there car. Its like saying that your car should be like mine cause mine is the best kinda deal. I mean it would be no fun if everyone drove a Supra would it.
And i especialy dont like when someone with a simulated sticker on there sig car posts complaning about stickers. So contradictive..

Ya you would be driving a Supra. Yor grandma would be driving one. That dumb girl next door who is always on E is driving one. Im sorry but i like my car because it is like me. It is an expresion of what i like and what looks good to me. And if everyone started to copy what i was doing id havew to change it, cause i dot want to be just like everyone else.

you don;t seem to get it..it wasent even a simulated sticker..i dident even make it my girlfriend made it for me. It was just a banner it was alot longer but you couldent read it clearly so i had her shrink it to match the paint on the car.

I dident diss stickers alltogether. I dissed dumb hillbillys for puting them on stock hondas and the like then saying that it runs 12's. Thats what i said.

Meh... I don't like drifting.

Albeit the two cars I really want are the typical rice boy drift cars. ( the 240, and the RX-7)

Unless I'm fuckin around in a parking lot on a friday afternoon - I want all 4 tires hooked to the road at all times. Makes me feel safer.

The ideal corner exit is a 4-wheel drift, with the front and the rear sliding the same amount at the same rate. From outside the car, it looks like the car isn't sliding at all if done right. "drifting" with the back end hung out is only faster in very tight, low speed corners, which really only exist in tarmac WRC rallies. The reasons for this have to do with the characteristics of the interactions of the tires and the pavement (I went more in-depth into this in another thread). If you can see a car "drifting", it is not the fastest way around the corner.
