I have nearly put as much money into my car as I have into girls and the bottom line is... the car is still with me and the girls are not. Maybe I'm just bitter but it is nice to know that a car will never leave your ass so it can have "some space". But to be honest I rarely touched my car when I had a girlfriend, but now that I'm single looks like I'll finally have time to detail the engine bay. So to answer your prompt, under most normal circumstances I would not put my car above a girlfriend.

I have to say I'm with the females on this argument. Human relationships should always come before a tonne or two of metal thats base purpose is transport. Think about it - you use your car primarily to get from where you currently are to more humans (relationships).

Or was there a gradual progression that you're omitting? Did you ever talk to him about it before you dumped him?

Basically, his actions over time told you that his car was more important to him that you were. You were not happy with this assessment, so you left. Is that an accurate summary?
