I think the M5 matches speed/power with refinement better than the Jag, but the MB comes in a close second. However, the M5, to me, is more of a high performance car than a luxury sedan...does that make sense? It is geared more towards the performance end, but doesn't skimp on the amenities.

Oh yeah...and the Bimmer looks gorgeous!

the e55 and m5 are compared all the time, and in road & track, the m5 won out this yr, but lost last year... and the margin was like 1 or 2 pts...
i like the e55.. which should make BRABUS wet his pants...
one of those votes is mine.. .especially b/c my friend has one next to his porsche... and it is just sick.... of course they are next to the harleys w/ nos, and the vette and the mercedes suv...
what a garage... but he drives the e55 the most...

i like it...
but i do like the m5 also... it is hella badass, and i would take either car... but i really like the e55...

i love sleepers... this is one of the best... better than the m5

hey Porsche.....
BMW isn't making an M3 Sedan. since the M3 has very little in common with the 3 series ie... door panels, hood, wheel covers, etc... it would cost way too much money to make a sedan. but anyways not having a sedan is cooler. 2 door is better.

Ive driven an M5 and i can assure you of one thing: it's f'in fast! Unbelievable experience, easily the fastest car ive ever driven. Minor criticisms is that the steering is too light... the brakes were beginning to struggle at the end of the drive but then again they did get a fair workout!!

M5 Vs XJR: the XJR is automatic. Nuff said

M5 Vs E55: the E55 is automatic. Nuff said

Neither of these cars are a match for the M5 when it comes to driving them fast, but the XJR and E55 do notch up some points for being more comfortable. But hey, if you want comfort, get a Rolls!

I've always like the M5, but the new E55 is just too georgeous. I've seen quite a few of them roaring down the autobahn, they just "wreak of cool", if that makes any sense. I think they're faster this year than the M5 but I'm not sure since the new 5 series is coming out soon. If i had the cash though, I would get the SL55 AMG..those things seriously make my jaw drop. I sat in a SL 500, and i wet my pants, so i have no clue what will happen if I ever get to sit in an SL 55.

Yes, the new E55 is faster, because it now used a supercharged (not NA like the old one used), 5.4L V8, with 479hp, I believe, and a similiar amount of torque. This gives it the raw power to out-accelerate the M5, but alas, it has an automatic. I would buy the M5 for that reason alone.

The M5 is simply miles ahead in terms of chassis control. Every single tester who's put an E55 sideways has come out of the car saying that's not something they'll be doing again anytime soon. The E55 is only good for cruising - albeit very, very fast

Give me an M5 anyday

The M5 looks awesome dude, what are you on about? Why do you think that last year, the E39 M5 hit record sales? Because it looks awesome and is such a balanced car (Ultimate Driving Machine), but also becasue the market knows that Chris Bangle will ruin the E60 design, which he did. :finger:

But the E55 AMG Id go for, as its the best all rounder. Audi suffers from poor aerodynamics, with a high drag coefficient, and understeer, despite the 4WD Quattro tech. I am aware that the RS 6 is not in this comparison, but I have mentioned it as it is a car in the exact same market and SHOULD be in this comparison.

Just my 2hp

Oh yeah and you should be comparing the Jaguar S Type R too these cars, not the XJR. If its the XJR, then this should be a comparison with the XJR vs Z8 vs SL55 AMG, and also possibly the Audi Nuvalori (sp?) concept which may be put into production, which I believe has the Lamborghini Gallardo engine, or some TT-based engine.

hello blitzen .. I knew that the 5 series is a good looking car .. Myself drives 7 series and 3 series and I love BMW .. but the 5 series design started at around 97 if I am not wrong .. so it's getting old for the style ... and the new E class MB is fresh from the oven ... hehhehe .. .. honestly I will not buy the new BMW series, I mean new 7 series or new 5 series becoz I don't like the style ... for me that styles are too much .. it's time for me to go back to MB ... heheheh .. just my personal opinions friend .. .. in the next 3 to 4 month I have plan to buy new E class MB ...

As a disclaimer, my arguments on AF where simply too challenge your point of views in a civil manner, through revised and calculated opinions , Hamann. Just a disclaimer .

I hope your getting yourself an E55 AMG then

I agree with you on your opinion that the new 7 and 5 are too much style. Its a shame really, because the handling, overall dynamics, engine, and interior are of an excellent quality. Damn Chris Bangle .

... hheehehhe .. I like discussion blitzen ..

not the E 55 AMG I will buy the regular one .. E 55 AMG is not available here .. and the car prices are very expensive here .. almost three times from US because of the import duty, tax and bla bla bla .. so u can imagine how much money I have to spend if I want to buy the E 55 AMG ...

I just don't understand why BMW do that? .. even for the new 5 series .. they suppose to know that many peoples don't like their new styles ... but they keep going ..

Yeah, it really sucks. I saw an E39 M5 with Alpina wheels, aftermarket leather interior - it was sweet. Doing such modifications to the E60 -
