Well, we should respect all people and show restraint in our reactions to mistreatment, not that I always do that.

It seems that the teacher needs to take a communication class, and learn how to persuade people to do what she wants (in this case look stuff up). I mean look what her tone/choice of words caused all that could have been avoided is she spoke more nicely to the student/class.

ex. Look class I am very busy right now could you pls. try and look the info. up 1st and then if you cannot find it I will help you.

Okay, coming from a future teacher, myself... Teachers have lives outside of class, like someone else said. Granted, she should be able to leave the baggage at the door, but sometimes the smallest things will set you off anyway. Perhaps in telling someone to look something up, she was encouraging extracurricular involvement (I don't mean sports here, people). Her tone might not have reflected it, but in her mind she might have thought it to be innocent. Again, TALK WITH THE TEACHER. We need feedback in forms besides exams and papers. If she is creating a hostile atmosphere, it's not conducive to learning, and thus her purpose is diminished. If she doesn't shape up after a few weeks, then, yes it's time to go "ladder climbing" to her superior.

Not everyday is a good day for everybody, or week even. Teachers have it pretty rough as far as I'm concerned, that teacher should have busted out the belt, kids are so out of line these days.

I dunno about you all but maybe the teacher is right. It's probably annoying to spoon-feed information to these kids. If they really would like to know, they can look in the book. Also she said she wasn't directing it towards that girl, but that girl had to get all bitchy and say "But you were looking at me." If the teacher really meant it she would have said it at the student's face. I mean the teacher has to look at one of her students.

The student just had to make a big case about it and have attitude.

Oz is right though, position doesn't dictate respect, it's the person. And if the person believes that, (i.e. supervisors, cops) then they don't deserve any respect.

I disagree.

The best teachers don't dictate the answers, but they never not do anything either.

Well, the best teachers GUIDE their students to the answer. There is no point in knowing Hitler went to Stalingrad for the Caucusus Oil Fields if you don't know WHY he went there, for example.
