Question

Is there a chance that a defective fuel sending unit could be the cause of delayed starts as I posted earlier? It seems there were others experiencing the same problems. Gas gauge seems to be working fine.
If it is not related to the fsu, could it be the fuel pressure relay and if so, where is it located? I have already replaced fuel pressure regulator.

Thanks, Jeff

I'd like to have the number too. I am so pissed off with the blinking fuel gauge and the check engine light on.

File a Complaint

The best thing you can do is file a compliant at or another complaint at NHTSA. The do read them, maybe you'd get a call too. Maybe it would speed up the process.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...aintsearch.cfm

This was my complaint:

Make : ISUZU Model : RODEO Year : 1999
Crash : No Fire : No Number of Injuries: 0

ODI ID Number : 10056755 Date of Failure: January 1, 2004

Component: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:FUEL GAUGE SYSTEM

Summary:
HOW MANY COMPLAINTS NEED TO BE FILED BEFORE THE NHTSA FINALLY STEPS IN? THE BELOW COMPLAINTS ARE NOT COINCIDENCES, IT'S A SAFETY AND INTEGRITY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. WE NEED THE NHTSA TO STEP IN AND MAKE ISUZU AMERICA DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND RECALL THE FAULTY FUEL SENDING UNIT. IF THIS FAILS THEN A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST ISUZU MOTORS MAY BE NECESSARY.

ODI ID NUMBER : 10010835 DATE OF FAILURE: OCTOBER 15, 2002 ODI ID NUMBER : 10021048 DATE OF FAILURE: JUNE 4, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 8008795 DATE OF FAILURE: APRIL 15, 2002 ODI ID NUMBER : 10014145 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 1, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10018960 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 28, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10052993 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 10, 2004 ODI ID NUMBER : 724341 DATE OF FAILURE: JUNE 20, 2000 ODI ID NUMBER : 742458 DATE OF FAILURE: MARCH 14, 2001 ODI ID NUMBER : 10014114 DATE OF FAILURE: APRIL 1, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10037492 DATE OF FAILURE: JULY 22, 2001 ODI ID NUMBER : 10042972 DATE OF FAILURE: APRIL 30, 2002 ODI ID NUMBER : 10010835 DATE OF FAILURE: OCTOBER 15, 2002 ODI ID NUMBER : 10029163 DATE OF FAILURE: FEBRUARY 17, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10021048 DATE OF FAILURE: JUNE 4, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10041578 DATE OF FAILURE: SEPTEMBER 20, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10051208 DATE OF FAILURE: DECEMBER 28, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10054214 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 14, 2004 ODI ID NUMBER : 10031134 DATE OF FAILURE: FEBRUARY 2, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10030711 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 1, 2000 ODI ID NUMBER : 10041156 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 1, 2002 ODI ID NUMBER : 10016931 DATE OF FAILURE: MAY 5, 2002 ODI ID NUMBER : 10014145 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 1, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10018960 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 28, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10014114 DATE OF FAILURE: APRIL 1, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10020620 DATE OF FAILURE: APRIL 4, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10042944 DATE OF FAILURE: OCTOBER 14, 2003 ODI ID NUMBER : 10054929 DATE OF FAILURE: JANUARY 1, 2004 . *AK

Yes I want to replace as many as I can get my hands on its a 10 minute job for me Isuzu pays me 1.6 hrs for the job therefore I would love to see those get recalled, but not only for that reason there are to many unsatisfiedd customers out there. By the way the sending unit is another one of GM's quality designed parts that they are using to screw Isuzu with

The recall should offer a more permanent solution.

Emailing the NHTSA or calling their Hotline will get you no where. They just know what is already in the database. If you really need to call someone to have some kind of satisfaction, let me know and I'll PM his number to you.

Denno,
Can you send PM or email me the contact info for Jeff Taylor? Thank you.

nhtsa complaint on fuel guage

I registered a complaint with NHTSA as well. Same problem on the 99 Rodeo fuel guage.

Any updates on when we can expect the recall?

Thanks.

Post Recall will not happen

I just called Jeff this morning 3/22/2004 and talked to him about the recall for Fuel Sending Unit, he told me that they tried last week but the recall request was turned down, it will not happen. Thank you.

Question What about heater cores?

Whilst perusing the internet for a heater core for my '97 Rodeo, I got this response from an online parts store:

"As you may already know, the heater core in that vehicle is replaced by removing the entire ‘heater unit assembly’ and replacing it with a new-and-improved design that is supposed to prevent premature failure of the core. The heater unit is part #8-97231-601-0, list price $345.35, your cost with our internet discount $293.55. If it helps to soften the blow, we always offer FREE shipping in the United States as well! Please give us a call if you would like to order…"

It occurs to me if there is a problem with premature core failure, shouldn't they recall them?

Or have I been smoking something?

Re: Fuel Sending Unit -- Recall in 6-8wks

Manufacturers will not recall every part that has a problem, only those that are safety issues. I'm not surprised the fuel pump wasn't recalled, and no way a heater core would be.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit -- Recall in 6-8wks

New to the forum and just perusing the threads...

Am I correct in assuming that this gauge/sender recall will address a flaky reading? My daughter's '99 gauge has a mind of its own. The last post on this was in March. Has a recall ever been issued?

TIA
