you want performance?? fine...here are the primary things that you will need (and for those of you who said he should get plexiglass windows??? HE IS NOT A PRO DRAG RACER!!!)
anyways here we go (all mods are for NON-turbo and MANUAL TRANSMISSION only): KA24DE is a DOHC there for - replace both cams to aftermarket..lightened... - nismO short shifter - lightened flywheel - carbon-fiber drive train - nismo strut/tower/sway bars - injen intake with HKS aftermarket O2 sensor and hi-flow B filter (those big round filters that are primarily seen on 3z's or rx-7's..yes they work on 240's) - any aftermarket pressure plate - rims not exceeding 17"...anything higher will slow your car down.. - I suggest the lightest rims you can find (therefore do not get CHROME) - koni adjustables..lighter...good for pick up... - eibach spring works will complete the suspension - port-polish - DC headers - I suggest GReddy extreme exhaust - sleeving your block - performance spark plugs - wider silicone hoses for ignition wires - MSD ignition - aftermarket intake manifold (i believe HKS or BLITZ makes one..i forget) - if you don't mind going without air condition..replace fan belt and place electric fan (relieves tension on belt) - boreing out your pistons...new rods - and most importantly...performance clutch..if you're not a pro at stick..get an 8 puck...it'll make a BIG difference on a launch

With the parts you mentioned:
- sleeving your block - performance spark plugs - wider silicone hoses for ignition wires - MSD ignition ...won't do jack without forced induction or higher compression plus an upgraded fuel system (injectors, pump, controller). - injen intake with HKS aftermarket O2 sensor and hi-flow B filter (those big round filters that are primarily seen on 3z's or rx-7's..yes they work on 240's) ...you mean, HKS VPC. (lol, the part about the filter made me laugh--all filters work on all cars with the proper adapter). And don't forget a ROM chip upgrade to finish it off. |

questions
that a 5 spd model?
I would get a better clutch so she can drop it off the line harder, I assume she wants to be able to beat the hondas more. For more street applications certain things are better then others to modify first. You can always start with the intake, Buy larger diameter Throttle body and Mass Air Flow meter. Buy a cold air intake system with cold air induction anything to let more air avaible to the engine. Now you have more air comming in focus on getting it ou in more volumes. I wouldn't nessecarily buy a header first off, spend it on a nice catback exaust system and test pipe to replace the catyalitic converter if your able to in your state. Theres some mods to stay away from too that are just a waiste of money and fabled myths. I see a lot of people buy high tech ignition systems with bigger wires and better plugs. Fact of the matter though if your engine is pretty much stock you don't have to mess with all that. Folks go buy nice expensive MSD ignition boxes etc... for nothing. Also if its pretty much stock hp(which I consider with the current mods I have listed so far) Bigger fuel injectors, fuel rails, fuel lines, and bigger fuel pump would also be a waiste of money almost and be good to stay away from for awhile. If you might get a stage 1 clutch or something a bit better then the stock clutch might as well put in a lighter flywheel at the same time, also underdrive pulleys are nice too if you can put those on yourself. |

he didn't mention dropping in a sr20, he wanted to know a few mods to get some power on his girlfriends car. Opening up your air intake and exaust is a great starting point for your car, any piece you can get with more diameter is usually good. MAF, TB's, Cone filters, intake piping... Catback exaust, get rid of the cat if you are able to that robs you off some top end power, and gives your car a bit more growl if you want it, then Id get some headers if I had a NA car. Underdrive pulleys, cam gears, and a better chip are a few easy starting points to do things on your car to get some power without being too radical, most of those parts are bolt on and easily done if you have some knowledge and tools. Try to stay away from parts where you will have to modify things, I try to get bolt on parts that are designed specifically for my car, might be a bit more expensive that route but you will save a lot of frustration installing it and in the future if you change other things that involve that part..

Oh I wasn't aiming my suggestions at any specific person, just commenting out loud in general. The guy with the girlfriend hasn't responded in about 9 months, so I figured I might as well respond to whatever you all have to say. And I still have to stick with the idea that it would be better to find a cheap DIY deal on an SR20 than buy a series of expensive bolt-on kits. You say that you would "try to get bolt on parts that are designed specifically for my car", but that statement as innocent as it may sound gives off an essence of irony, in that the KA24DE isn't even designed specifically for the 240SX.
