Re: Help me out, need color shading tips!(pics later)
i'm not even talking about getting an airbrush with you. i am saying employ the TECHNIQUES of the airbrush with MARKERS. pigment is pigment. you don't need the airbrush to do what i am talking about. i use the airbrush only for accents. and barely at that. use MARKERS.
and you are going need to drop the short attention span thing if you care to get anywhere in life with drawing. |

Wow, great line drawings. With color you will be better than all of us...
![]() Great tips Bonzelite. I will have to try some of those markers you suggested. Here is a book I have found to be helpful but it is not complete in my opinion. With help from folks here we can make it complete ![]() How to Draw Cars Like a Pro by Thom Taylor Check it out at your local book store but buy it used or get it at your library. Bonzelite is right on, and I have said this before you are going to need to read many books because there are not complete books on rendering cars. You wouldn't believe the stuff I read. I mean stuff that has nothing to do with cars but I read to see if I can apply it to cars (art books). I have lots of ideas in my cranium. ![]() You are just going to have to jump in and swim. You will mess-up but you must continue to on. I found this link helpful but have not tried the powder pastel mix. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...light=tutorial Links to ellipse tutorials http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...light=tutorial This link has a line car that you can use to practice. You may want to enlarge it for more room. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...light=coloring Take care Alfred

Re: Help me out, need color shading tips!(pics later)
Thank you both asaenz & bonzelite especially, for the on depth words. I will try to get my hands on the books suggested, hopefully I will get a chance to read the as well.
Actually I drew all of these in a span of 2.5-3 hours, that is usually how I draw I never could start a drawing, stop and come back to it. If I do stop a drawing it most likely will not get finished, I like to think I go into drawing binges, like sitting at my desk for 6 hours straight drawing all kinds of things. "Wow, great line drawings. With color you will be better than all of us..." Uhh, thanks but I do not believe that for a second, there are way too many people out there and on this forum that are much better.

I know this post is dead, but can anyone tell me what are or if they have heard of ad markers? If so who are they made by? Where could I find some? Thanks

Re: Help me out, need color shading tips!(pics later)
tokes99, you can get ad markers at pearl. or just about any drafting or art supply store. there are many different kinds of ad markers. i use chartpaks mostly. they smear copier toner, though, if you try to color on xeroxes. prismacolors do not smear toner, but they dry out soon. there are also tria markers. those have refill bottles of liquid ink to support them when they dry out. those seem to be choice among storyboard artists, but i don't like them. however, i have in my arsenal all 3 brands.
i am overdue to learn photochop for coloring, too, as many ad agencies are getting used to that digital color look. so now i need yet another thing. i hear it is simple. i need a wacom tablet. i prefer doing shooting boards as those typically seldom call for color. i just use a ball-point pen straight to paper. |

Re: Help me out, need color shading tips!(pics later)
well ill lay out a basic step-by-step for you..so here goes
1.)Do your outline in the color of the body (unless it is touching another color) 2 look at a car (reference) and find the solid colors (not gradiating) and draw them in..this is a pretty important step 3 mask the background and use chalk to make the gradiating tones 4 fixative 5 use gouache paint to make highlights 6 your done!! this is VERY basic and i recommend looking at aseanzes tut...very good...also buy the book how to draw cars like a pro by thom taylor....VERY HELPFUL great outlines and i hope to see the finished products
