Im pretty certian the 3SGE and 3SGTE are the same damn engine except the 3SGE is desinged for a turbo and hence has a lower compression ratio... Take the 3SGE, rebuild it with good stuff, lower the compression to 8.5:1 and turbocharge it. If your not going to turbocharge it raise the compresion to 11.5:1.

Webcams I believe has a street-strip cam with high lift and larger overlap for no-turbo performance. J&E Pistons should stock pistons for that engine and if they dont just have them make you set. Get some valve springs from Ferrea racing. I used 1.8L Mazda Miata 85lb springs that were shimmed to fit my 5SFE.

hey guys...why dont the both of you just get the j-spec 22r motor that has a ct20 turbo in it...the motore came outta a toyota pickup and the celica in japan...and its a ct20 turbo...no such thing as a ct20a..or b but thats what i would do...or better yet try what my dad did...an 86 gts convertable rear clip and a 86 supra front clip...everything matches up perfectly and the driveshaft is just the perfect length too....

I was told by several people that the 3SGE was not designed to handle a turbo, though with the compression it does have it would be great to have one on there.. Well except for the fact that a turbo is hell to work on if it goes wrong.. I am dumping all performance parts in that engine, from the spark plugs to the oil pump and all inbetween.. I really really need ya'lls input on all good brands and everything I should look for..

wow im surprised anyone is actually talking about a 86' GTS heh i got one for my birthday last year and havent got it running yet (mainly im lazy) but its nice to know that theres others in a delima like me...ill keep in touch.....thinkin about putting my fuel pump in now....

For me this is the first real car I have had yet even though the engine may not run, and also I am one who is really picky about what cars should be hooked up. For example I am very anti-Honda. Not that I dislike the vehicles but because it has been played out way too much and they are seemingly too damn easy to hook up.

Now me personally I have not seen hardly any older Celica's wired for anything, at least not like most other cars (ex. Honda, Mitsubishi, Acura). I can cover the entire city of Jacksonville NC (home of the largest military base on the east coast, and possibley more) and I have found I believe 4 older model Celica's. Non of which have any kind of modifications except one guy, and he is another reason I am trying so hard to make my baby mobile.

He has a 1989 GTS with the same engine and he believes he could beat anyone in town with his racing clutch, and lightweight timming gears . He definately will have another thing comming when I am finished with my baby.

And besides, not many cars have ass and gas millage on the same set of wheels

Sure thing, in fact I would like to know the same thing. Also I have some questions. Anyone know how you could increse compression in an engine without turbo? And how would that exactly effect the engine?

compression is in the pistons. You can probably get pistons made to give you higher compression.

See thats what I understood to be true but several people told me that you would have to have a different crank shaft to achieve higher compression. Whether or not that ment in addition to different pistons or not I dont know, it seems you would have to change those aswell if you changed the crank.

Anyone understand that? Or believe it to be true?

I have an update on my car.. I have decided to buy another 3SGE engine.. One to keep in the car to have it on the road, and the one I am upgrading on an engine stand.. So now I can drive her around all I want and do whatever the hell I want to the engine

I haven't picked it up yet I am still looking for a good one.. I priced one from the manufacturer through Advanced Auto and they wanted $2,700.. and I haven't found a promising place on the net to get one so I am just going to get it through a junk yard..

What you need to look for if you get it from a junk yard is one from a car that has been wrecked but with the engine still intact.. Usually a rear end collision is a promising sign.. After I get one I am just going to tune it up the best that I can with OEM parts and take the one that is already in my car and rebuild that on a stand with my performance parts..

It's a pain doing little by little and trying to keep the engine running at the same time so I can use the car.. Now by having the junk yard engine in there I can do what ever I want to the racing engine and still have my baby on the streets..

One guy was going to hook me up with a 2S-E engine for $200.. Damn good price but that isn't a performance engine, all economy in that one.. You'll have to ask around.. Especially go to those small privately owned shops and ask them cause a lot of times they won't know what they have..
