Buicks are the cheapest car in America to insure and BMWs are among the most expensive. However, in Los Angeles the difference in the cost of insurance is marginal. For example, a 2004 Buick Century costs only $20/month less to insure than a 2004 BMW 325i sedan. These two cars are at the extreme ends of the insurance spectrum for 4 door sedans with a 6 cylinder engine. Considering that rent for a 1 bedroom apartment around here averages $1,000/month, $20 is loose change.

The best place to evaluate insurance rates is at,
http://www.progressive.com
They give pretty accurate quotes on their site.

I pay $160 a month for my 90. I was going to get a 99 GT but the insurance said that it would be $700 A MONTH for me to get one (thats full coverage under my name). I make like $450 a month working 20 hours a wek so how is ANYBODY supposed to afford something like that? Jeez....
P.S.- $120(car payment)+$160(insurance)+$80(gas )+$20-$140(fix shit that breaks)= i'm broke and in debt......at 16.

Let me tell you guys something I dont want to sound like your dad but you don't know what broke is yet. Try paying Rent, utilities, car ins, car note, or in my case car note's. And trying to keep up on my car mods. And this my friends is just the tip of the ice burg. ( lets not even go into kids)

Enjoy living at home boys, when you finally get out here in the real world you will find out just how much of a sick sense of humor life really has.

that may be true, but i offten find that the "older" population forget is this:

Being in high school i spend 6+hours in school each day. Now out of 24 hours 6 are in school 8-9(if that sometimes) are spent sleeping, 2 are spent on homework and studying, plus the hour or so spent traveling. so that leaves 7-8 hours to earn money (90% of the time at minium wage) ,fix your car/work on car, have a social life, do ANYTHING else, AND still go driving. So basicly I work as hard as possible, make about 20 times less a year, and have less time to do anything.

Now hows that for being broke?

Re: insurance rates suck

If your're young and still on your parents insurance policy, see if you can be listed as the main driver for one of your parents cars; that might be cheaper depending on what they drive. My mom did that for my 5.0 and my ins. went from 1200 to 700.

And what ever you do on your own policy or on your parents. Do everyone a favor, if you get a speeding ticket ( we get them from time to time look what you drive) get an attorney and have them fixed. The money its gonna save you down the road is well worth it.

Re: insurance rates suck

SIKCRX...UTI sucks man. I been going for 8 months now. Reality #1: NO Part Time Automotive Job; Why? you ask? ( Because the comunity hates us, everyone thinks you are a hellraiser that bellongs behind bars if you attend UTI. Reality #2: NO Homework? They may not assign homework but if you dont takes good notes and study then you better have a Photographic memory. There is noway you can pass the electrical classes w/out studying unless you where born with a lightbulb up your a$$. There is no way you can pass A/C unless you manage to stay awake during class. There is no way to pass Fuel % Emissions or Driveability unless you really do study. So ya no assigned homework, but beleave me buddy, there will be plenty of it. I know your recruiter told you all kinds on interesting things. But! unless you wanna go work for some import, choose another school. My recruiter filled me full of good cool shit and made me really wanna go, but if i had it to do all over again, beleave me budy, i wouldnt be here. You may wanna look into Wyotech.

Yep, i drive about 90-100 miles a week. And have to fill the tank up every week. Which is $22. So $22 times 4 is $88. My car gets 9mpg, yep i'm still trying to figure out why. I dont drive like an idoit, hardly ever hold my foot on the floor, dont know what it is. I'll figure it out eventually.

I feel your pain.... I am going through the Think big program for cat, and Im being sponsord by Catipillar Proving Grounds. it's the UTI or wyotec for caterpillar. electrical class is tough. Nothing is assigned. Your not forced to do homework. But if you want to keep your sponsorship you have to study and study hard. For mee to keep my sponsorship Ineed to keep a 3.0 out of a 4.0 minimum to stay in the class.
