Rubbing noise in tires

A "final" update(?) -

After haggling with the dealer, I was able to get them to take care of the price of the front tires while I went ahead and purchased the back tires. We changed the tires and it solved the problem.

I think a larger aspect of this problem that WON'T be solved withor without a warranty is that the olny way problems like this are getting addressed by the dealer is when the consumer voluntarily brings in their car for some other repair (but they won't tell you, even if you directly ask, if there's a problem). One of the worst things is that the car manufacturers enforce this behavior by dealers under penaly of loss of franchise. It's time to start demanding more from the makers of these cars with regard to the way they conduct their post-manufacturing business.

I have a 2002 Alero and my dealer just told me that the noise I have been hearing in my front end is my tires rubbing against the rims. The car has only got 42000KM on it and although they had a recall on this mine was not included. They are trying to get the two new tires covered but told me that when I rotate my tires I am going to have the same problem again. My advice to all is take your car in and get them checked while under warranty. Also get them to check your front end control arm bushings, my popped out and had to be replaced.

Can someone help me out here? I've been in the tire business for over 20 years and I've never heard of a rubbing noise coming from tires unless they're rubbing on the body or frame during turns due to being the wrong size. What does it sound like?

It actually sounds like dragging brakes.The brakes on my car had been replaced and tires rotated.After a short time the sound came back.I went to the tire dealer that i deal with and he had said the tires were worn to a point that the beads were making noise on the rim.A quick fix was to over inflate them and most of the noise would be gone.The tires were worn so I installed new ones and the noise is gone completely.I've had the new tires for a few weeks now and so far nice and quite.

Grand Ams with aluminim wheels were famous for that. If you would dismount the tires and clean off all the corrosion on the sealing area of the wheel the noise would go away. Actually the bead area of the rim should probably be refinished.
