Re: Re: What Would You Do If The World Ended Tomarow?

[quote=ILike2DriveCars]Ok, the thread title says "what would you do if the world ended tomorrow?" yet you pose the question in the post "what would you do if the world ended in a month?" Just thought I would point that out...

I know but it would have been to long of a title to say
What would you do If the world ended in a month.
So I cut it short. Whatever Month, Day pretty close.

What do you think Society would do?
What would other nations do? Like Russia or Japan?

Re: What Would You Do If The World Ended Tomarow?

I personally would probably do what I really want to do but still haven't. Retreat to a Buddhist monestary and practice with one of the monks there, and focus on things such as living in the present moment and making the most out of the little time that I had left. I'd also spend a lot of time in meditation to find the root of my suffering, and trying my best to stay calm so that others around me would suffer as little as possible so that when the end came we would all die peacefully.

I would make sure I have enough food to last a month. My guess is that the grocery stores aren't going to be kept well stocked.

Probably try lots of drugs and have lots of sex. If I know the world is gonna end, why not be high and having sex when you die.

You would be the only monk in the monastery with this goal. Life and death are one to a Buddhist. There is no present moment to a Buddhist because time is a meaningless concept created by man. Also, if you were searching for the root of suffering- the first noble truth of the Buddha: Life is suffering. I think you would be making a wasted trip based on incorrect assumptions. However, I admire your intentions. Far more noble than stealing a car, drinking profusely or getting some action...

OK... something isn't kosher here. Please clear something up for me. If there is no present moment to a Buddhist then why did the other Buddhist on this forum tell me this ?" It's wonderful to have goals it's just bad when there's a goal or future event that your so focused on that it doesn't let you live in the present and enjoy the life you have right now. "

Also if time was created by man then why can't man destroy time and stop getting old? Unless you are speaking in terms of the spirit(soul) of man and not the physical body.

I can't speak for another Buddhist- all I can say is that a Buddhist's elementary "goal", if you want to call it that, is to find and understand oneself in the eternal scheme of things. As for the concept of time, you certainly could symbolically "destroy" it in your own life, but you'd still get old. This isn't a comic book. Time is a concept, not a force. Your soul is immortal within the eternal- realizing this brings bliss in the present and future and forever (by time's standards). No threat of death or catastrophe or mishap can destry that bliss once obtained. This is also referred to as Heaven in another well known religion.

However, as the moderators will most likely point out, this conversation belongs in the Religion discussion- it can get touchy....

"If the people must be ever fearful of death, then there will always be an executioner".

Have as much sex as I possible could. Go to my dealership and steal an SL55 and drive the shit out of it. Then steal a Maybach 62 and take it to a destruction derby.

I belive you are correct however I feel I must point out that the term "present moment" is not ment to be a discription of time it is what it is the present moment is the "right now", and that is why it is the only thing that is real because it's the only thing you are in actual contact with at any point. I completely understand what you said by no concept of time and I believe you are quite correct. Life (birth and death) is but a continuation "a wave in an ocean" of endlessness. I wrote it with the best of intentions. However I must not have been paying attention to what I wrote. What I should have said is I wished to find an end to suffering by practicing with a monk, so that I could help others to suffer less during the time close to the end. Because as you pointed out "life is suffering" however Buddha never said suffering couldn't be understood and gotten rid of after all that is Nirvana is it not? Thank you for pointing out the flaws in my statment, I am very glad you did. I hope you understand what I have said as well. -Justin
