That Z-28 had to be an older model.. I currently drive a 2000 Trans Am with the LS1 and two of my friends both have 2000 Preludes... One of them is modded significantly, the other is completely stock...

I ran the modified (at the time he had a AEM Cold Air with Bypass Valve, Cam, Gears, DC sports header and some other stuff I think not much) Lude one night against my stock (at the time, well I had a K&N but like that does anything) 2000 Trans Am.. He had been trying to race me all night long and we finally got onto 2 roads that allowed us to go at it.. The first time he pulled up and gave me the "eye" so we went.. I beat him... he catches up and tells me he wasn't ready, so we go again and I absolutly mauled him...

I'm not dissing on imports... I'm just thinking the car must have been old or not really running.. I have an Integra, completely stock and I also have a Dodge Stealth, might as well be an import it's got Mitsu stickers all over the thing...

On the other hand, my car has progressed as has my friends 2K Lude.. He now has a Jackson S/C, Mugen Header, Full Mugen Exhaust, VTEC timer and the previously mentioned mods.. We still haven't raced yet.. He says he's hoping for high to mid 12's.. Does that sound about right??

I have raced both an SS Camaro, and a newer VTEC Prelude (5th Gen I think)

The SS Camaro totally destroyed me, and looked and sounded pretty stock... might have had exhaust

The Lude pulled ahead off the line since I spun, but after I hooked up, I stayed with him (my front bumper was a foot or two behind his front bumper) till he hit about 3rd gear... Then he pulled a bit more, and stayed there neither of us really gaining on the other... The Lude had at least an exhaust, it was extremely loud...

*shrugs* The Camaro was a monster, the Lude was about an even match... I think a Lude would need a lot of mods to hang with a Z28...

BTW, 2K T/A Driver, Your car is beautiful I have wanted a Trans Am for the longest time... especially a WS6 model... I'll trade my Z for your T/A :P

Thanks for the compliments.. I came EXTREMELY close to getting either a Prelude or a Civic Si but it came down to something really simple, neither of those cars had the rumble of a V8 and I had to have thatMy friends Lude sounds sweet not fart pipish at all, race car sounding, but I can ride through the parking deck at school in 1st, basically idling and set off multiple car alarms... There's just something about the rumble of a V8 that I have always loved... After I got the headers and the Off road y-pipe I couldn't believe it... It makes the term "throwing a rev" have a whole new meaning!!

Lol, I know, my dad has a AMC 401 in his 79 Jeep Cherokee Chief, once he put headers and a new exhaust (2 1/2 inch or 3 inch... dont remember) it sounds bad ass... the other morning he was doin somethin and he just punched the throttle, it woke me up, but it was a sweet sound to wake up to

My parents just got a motor home with a Chevy 454 w/headers and exhaust (the guy who had it before put exhaust on it for some reason ) My dad was revving that up just so I could hear it, it sounded sweet too :P

My little 2.8 liter I6 in my Z is rather quiet... when I rev at people the engine and turbo make more noise than my exhaust does *sighs*

BTW, Your car would look even more pimp with the ram air hood, who cares if you actually have ram air or not, just putting the hood on would make it look mean

Yeh, I've been looking at the SLP Ram Air H.O. Hood.. If i get it though, it's got to be functional something about just having it for looks doesn't sit with me.. I mean, it would be neat but people would be like "is it ram air" and I can say "yes it is" now, but it just would be like I was trying to put the hood off as functional, ya know? I've been looking into it.. We'll see what happens!

I don't think Self's LT1 is run down or oldish. I heard he runs 11's n/a, and plus he gave the Prelude a jump and it was only up to about 90 mph.

Self is your Z28 automatic? Because I heard that even though there is hardly a difference between auto and manual when it comes to V8's for the 1/4, that on rolling starts, having a manual is better because of a more responsive downshift.

Who knows? I do know that Prelude's with H22's can run 15 flat with a good driver, so if you can find a way to shave off at least 150 pounds, put responsive bolt on's, and learn how to drive you could easily get a mid 14 second time slip with a good r/t and 60 ft. time. Of course, racing an LS1/LT1 on the freeway is a completely different story.

Oh, no way...Not old or run down...It's a 95 in tip-top shape(well...I admit I need new plugs now ). But yea...That race was awhile ago, but I remember he was about 1 and a half, maybe two full lengths ahead, before I even downshifted...And we were going 45-50 I want to say(not positive). Anyways, by about 75 - 80, I had caught him easily, and would have full farrr farrr away were it not for upcomign traffic, lol. Even though my car wasn't what it is now, back then, I know I still would have solidly beat him, he only has basic bolt-ons after all. Since then I've added the cam, RRs, TB, clutch, 4.10s, new tires, SFCs, and had the heads reworked. So I'm quite a bit quicker now than I was then. And about the gearing...I have an M6(manual). I'm not too sure about LT1s, but I know that in the newer LS1s, the automatic is quicker from a roll. This is due to the fact that it can drop to a lower gear from a higher speed. Example, doing 65 - 70ish, an M6 can only drop to 3rd, while the A4 can move down to second...Don't know if it's the same with the LT1s though. I would venture to say it isn't though, b/c I beat a couple A4 LT1s from rolls when I was stock.

Can you just add the Ram Air box or whatever it is to your model T/A? You could get a supercharger and say you got the hood to flow more air into it Or go turbo and make some crazy intake system... Just so you could say its functional

If a Turbocharged Trans Am pulled up next to just about any import driver, I think they would shit themselves :P

Yeh, I'm thinking about adding the ram air box... so we'll see.. I might just g'head and do the hood and deal... I know a kid with a 97' SS with a 383 Stroker/Turbo in it... It's insanely fast..

My car will be supercharged in the next year and hopefully I'll be running mid to low 10's... Right now I'm trying to break into the 11's...

Bad ass man... Whats the kid with the stroker/turbo kit run in the 1/4?

Running 10's, you would be able to beat just about anything on the street eh? Delicious...
