Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

Just sent a message to a friend in Japan to see what is up. You are confusing the hell out of me. I always consider myself wrong until I can prove otherwise. So at this point I will agree with you. This is the first time in the 15 years I have been messing with rotaries that I have heard this though.

Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

The infini model rx7 was produced by Mazda Japan from the factory. Look at it as a special model rx7 specifically designed for performance. The infini name just differentiates it from the normal rx7.

Re: Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

and that doesnt answer anything...

the question is, Is infini an aftermarket tuner like AMG or is it a badge that mazda puts on its cars and sells them strickly as infini rx-7s, like a dodge neon/chrysler neon or nissan 350z/infiniti g35...

Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when released in Japan it wasn't even called the rx7, wasn't it known as the Infini IV?

Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

From a friend in Okinawa Japan, and heavy into the Japan Domestic scene:

Quote:
I've seen Mazda on the FC's, but I think the FD's all have Infini on them.. but I'm not sure as most of the people over here take off the badges.
I have been told that the Infini or FD as we know them here was purely a Model name for the RX-7 in Japan.

The InfiniIV we hear about that came to the US for a brief visit was a Mazdaspeed tuned Fc or Japanese name Infini. Sort of like the Fairlady was the name of the Nissan Z car sin Japan.

But then I was told Infini was indeed Mazdas skunkworks division an in house tuner if you will.

So at this point I give up. I was not trying to prove anything. Its just wacky when something you thought you knew for 10 + years turns out to be wrong. I was mearly trying to understand thats all.

Re: rx7 FC3S Infini

Here is the best explanation I have seen yet.

Quote:
Infini is the name of the limited edition models that Mazda sold in the 80's (RX-7's and some others).

Efini is the brandname that Mazda sold all FD RX-7's and some other models under in Japan (i.e. Efini RX-7 instead of Mazda RX-7).

Other than being made by Mazda, Infini and Efini cars are completely unrelated to each other.
- NZConvertible - Auckland, New Zealand

and this:
Quote:
Savanna was the Japanese brand name that SA/FB and FCs were sold under.

Much like the FD was sold under the Efini brand name and the Miata was sold under the Enuos brand name in Japan
- Icemark - Rohnert Park CA

It seems Mazda is not a big fan of having just one name for its company.
