Re: Noisey Serpintine belt

Tried the silicone trick today, as my belt also squealed when cold.

Quieted down so fast as I was spraying it almost scared me.

Re: Re: Noisey Serpintine belt

If your belt is worn or hardend, the noise will return in a couple of days. I've never had a squeal problem and have always used Gates belts/hoses. I spray mine to keep it from drying out, as our local average humidity is 22%.

Re: Noisey Serpintine belt

I bought some silicone spray (Motorvator brand) from K-mart. I sprayed it on the
belt with it warmed up and running, sprayed it on there for a good min. then let it set
over night so it would soak in good. That was about a week ago and so far no sqeaks.
I will probably continue to use this silicone as needed until spring, then i want to change
the belt with one that won't squeak. Indy8, you say Gates belt won't harden and
and make noise. Do you know who sells the Gates brand belts? Thanks.

Re: Re: Noisey Serpintine belt

Let me re-phrase that. All rubber products eventually harden. In my experience, Gates last much longer than any other brand. I change all my vehicles belts once a year, regardless of need. It's cheap and easy. If you can't find a Gates seller, they make most of NAPA's belts and hoses. They will have an "ECR" sticker on them.

Take it easy on the silicone. The next thread will be my A/C doesn't get cold. (If your lucky enough to live in a warm area) It's kinda funny when the compressor stays still while the rest of the pulleys are turning.

Re: Noisey Serpintine belt

Tech Tip; Put a Bando belt on and this will fix the Issue. I have been a tech for 26 years. If all the pulleys and the other items are in good shape this is the cure.
