maybe he had a good reason for leaving.
even if he was stupid enough to kill himself accidentally you still don't call a dead guy and idiot or dumbass.
have some decency and respect.

Re: Dumbass of the Month: Tourist leaves 80L of water behind to go die in the desert

Abso-fuckin-lutely. Have some respect. It's not like he was courting death like that motorbike guy who launched himself into a net (a few threads back). He just made a bad decision, but we dont know the logic behind it... maybe he thought they'd never find his vehicle where it was broken down. anyway, as someone said, a little more tact wouldnt go amiss

Tact - consideration in dealing with others and avoiding giving offence

Saying "fuck him" about a dead man... honestly...

Maybe he though the car was filled with ravenous ferrets?

Ain't alcohol great?

I still have no sympathy for the guy, if he chooses to leave EIGHTY LITRES of water behind to walk into the GREAT SANDY FUCKING DESERT in summer with no supplies, he deserves a Darwin award.

I have consideration for others. It sucks he died, but he should've been thinking, shouldn't he?

Re: Dumbass of the Month: Tourist leaves 80L of water behind to go die in the desert

Iwould imagine that a city dweller from England would have little comprehension of desert survival. The closest he would ever get to a desert would be to get rather thirsty on a hot day in a traffic jam.Worst case scenario,he'd have to call the AA.

Different ball-game in the Outback.Very dangerous to assume that because your rental car will start,it will get you to your destination. Also very dangerous to assume that if you get lost or stuck, someone will be around to get you out of a jam.But people do make these assumptions because that is all the experience of motoring that they have. The rental vehicle companies should really think twice about hiring out 4x4's to novices,as this guy clearly was.

I agree it’s not very appropriate to speak ill of the dead....

Plus we don't have enough info to say for sure he deserves a Darwin award...who knows maybe he though he was close enough to a settlement or something to warrant walking

This kind of thing is very common in desert areas. When peoples cars break down in the desert, the heat gets to them, and for some reason they usually end up wandering off into the desert. The phenomena has been labeled "desert madness". When your car breaks down in a desert area, you are supposed to get out and lie under your car, to hide yourself from the sun.
