A yuppie mobile?:hehehe: :hehehe:
I used to drive a friggin' heavy metal band around in a volvo! It never let me down and took tons of abuse. Im also tall and it fit me great.

Volvo's are a damn fine ride - one of the best in my book. As far as drivers go - there are idiots driving every kind of automobile - it doesnt matter. I see more stupidity behind the wheels of Hondas, Fords, Toyotas and Nissans that I do Volvos. I think that is a worn-out 20 year old stereotype.

The 700 series was groundbreaking as was the 800 series and the XC really brought Volvo into the public eye.

Good, solid, attractive performers.

Yeah, carguy seems to be qute ignorant about volvo's really. they are considered classy cars and very reliable. I have never heard of people having alot of trouble with them. thier pretty much tractor engines in them(80's and earlier as far as I know) and are made to go 500,000+ miles. They have good gas milage and I really see no problem owning one. and if you think its "girlie" owning a volvo then its must be a personal problem.

LOL my friend just bought a brand new Volvo S80 T6
2 weeks later (last weekend) he fell asleep at the wheel on the highway going around 80-90mph
he just dozed off for a second, tapped another car and started spinning around before he ended up on the side of the highway

the car only got like $2000 damage though, not bad

Thumbs up

To the people ragging on Volvo, !!! Volvo's rock and are so underated by non-drivers. They are considered luxery cars yes, but so are BMW's and Porche's. And it's not all old people and grocery getters that drive BMW's is it? No! Volvo's are one of THE most popular racing vehicles for street in Sweden, and are made into extremely exceptional cars. They are great stock. Not only are they some of the safest cars, but also fast and very fuel economic. So to all you Volvo haters, F-off, and have a nice day!

I must admit, unfortuneatly, that I have had to get rid of my volvo. Too many problems and too much money. It was in a pretty bad accident long before I had it but the mechanic and the people who owned it afterwards did not know what they were doing(imagine that).

Screw you carguy. What crawled up your ass and died? Volvo's are great sleepers and family cars. It all depends on what you're looking for!

I think Volvo's are great cars for people who lack imagination and want to make a statement about themselves as a hapless yuppie that likes to run marathons, calls his broker every Monday morning, drives the twins to jazzersize on Tuesdays, lets the Mrs. take it to Yoga on Wednesdays, uses it to go to the Market on Thursdays, (not a grocery store, that's to average), and on Friday's takes it to the Concert Hall for a night at the Opera. Saturdays and Sundays it stays parked out front to tell the neighbours just who you are......... Trust me, they know already.

Almost forgot...you probably shop at IKEA and only eat imported chocolates.
I love it! I am a volvo owner and this describes me perfectly!

Btw- are you my idiot neighbor that drives the slowpoke honda with a 20" muffler baffle to make the car sound like a harley?

Get real!

Volvos suit me perfectly. In nearly all thier models, performance, practicality, safety, low price (relative to many german cars and very low on insurance) build quality and versatility are all perfectly balanced.

In fact Volvo, Saab and Subaru are all companies with similar priorities. When looking for a daily driver that suit me well, these are the companies I tend to always come back to.

Re: Volvo Drivers

I got an 86 740 turbo as a graduation present last year. The thing has been well maintained and I think it will run forever. As a former mechanic I am sold on volvo engineering. It is hard to figure out at first, but once you get used to it, it makes more sense. Things like tightening up the belts can be done easliy without requiring you to loosen pivot bolts and prying to tighten the belt. It was a well thought out car. If it weren't for the ugly styling it would be a perfect car. Their is nothing you can do to them to make them really look good.

I agree that Volvo should go back to RWD. I would never buy a new volvo, or a FWD car for that matter. Its a shame that once they got good looking they became wrong wheel drive.

Re: Volvo Drivers

I wouldn't buy any of the new ones. Now that they switched to wrong wheel drive their is no reason to buy them. They are just over priced Fords now. The irony is that they finally made them good looking. To bad its only skin deep.

Mercedes and BMW know whats up with the drivetrains but their interiors suck IMHO. I hate leather, window controls in the center console, and automatic climate control.
