Re: what is the best carbon fiber hood?

Hey guys just wanted to give you the update on my new hood! i got it in four days ago and at first i was getting upset because the hood wasn't fitting the way i wanted it to fit. On the side i got hit (by that stupid lady) there was a huge gap and the driver side it was overlapping. so i had to move (the side that i got hit) the fender in and the driver side fender out. But it looks better and i am really pleased with the way the hood looks So just wanted to let you all know to go with VIS

I also got my trunk and it looks hot! i'm thinking about pearling both my hood and my trunk blue to match my car! This guy said he would do it for me for $200 for the trunk and $175 for the hood! what do you guys think? If anyone knows of a place in the Maryland, DC area that is really good at pearling Carbon Fiber please let me know! i don't care much about price i just want to get it done right!

When i get it done i will post a picture!

I am glad to see you got your hood and you got it to fit correct with a little work. Out of curiousisty, were the fenders not put on correct after you got hit or something or the frame not fully straightend? I'm just asking cuz that's not normally something you hear about with VIS, though I am glad you got it to fit good, and that you got it to look good. I myself, personally, if I ever got another hood, CF or otherwsie, would get a Kaminari one...they have a design that absolutly kicks ass, of course, it costs an arm and a leg too, but qaulity costs money, so there you go, lol. Anyways, I am glad your hood and trunk worked out well....post the pics when you get em.

I have a VIS hood too, and I love it. SilverY2Kcivic saw it when I showed it a few times. Its probably one of the best I've seen. Its an oem style... no fancy gills, vents, scoops, pods, b*llsh*t. But I have seen some by VIS that fit very poorly... but they all seem to be the ones with the scoops and vents.

i too got vis. it looks pretty nice on my blue teg, although one complaint i have is that one screw doesn't screw in correctly. fiber images i heard are one of the best, iv'e even seen their videos where they ran their hoods over with a car, or dropping a tire on it. after that ordeal, it still looks good. i bought one of fiber images oem hood, but after waiting for a month and a half i decided to go with vis instead. also it was a lot less expensive then fiber images.

that's good to know about VIS, I'll make sure to keep that in mind for future reference.

oh one more thing i like to add is that fiber images doesn't have a clear coat nor does is it uv coated whereas as vis' hood does. so for the best bang out of your buck it appears vis has got the lead, as far as longevity, i guess im going to have to find out.

well, that being the case, I'd steer away from fiber images myself....lack of clearcoat and UV coating would = more fading due to sunlight and more discoloration over the long haul...at least that's what I would think. They make be strong, but that's big part to leave off...I know that Kaminari makes strong hoods and UV coats them, and VIS isn't bad. I would think for the $$ of an OEM style fiber images hood, that it would be clear coated and/or have uv protection on it. It's nice to know that info.

I swear Paul, if you ever let it get to looking how it was when I bought your Neuspeed strut bar from off your Civic, I'll have to beat you down! I almost thought you had a flat black painted hood that night, haha! I still have the pics of when you had that thing waxed to a mirror image shine. Before then I had never known a CF hood could get so shiny and reflective. Absolutely a grade A++ hood IMO!

After ditching Christine, I've had alot more time... and I buffed out the hood so it was about 90% of what it was... but remember, recently, I just had it painted on the sides... so now the entire hood is clear coated. So its back to its shininess... or even shinyer! On top of that, when they sanded it down for painting and added the new clear coat, I found out the disoloration was just on the surface of the original clear coat. So it was sanded off and replaced with a new fresh coat of clear coat... no more discoloration. I dont know if you ever noticed it though. I had one of the first VIS CF hoods... so if you guys have one, dont worry. The newer ones dont discolor like mine did... or at least I havent seen one discolor.

Hmmm Christine... Your ex or your cousin? LOL! Naw, wasn't that your ex though I met that one night at your house you're refering to?

I don't remember the discoloration of your hood though, but that might have happened after the last time I saw it. I gotta see how your car looks now, sometime soon here. You know kinda how mine is.

Okay Silverbolt, after reading all this in here, I am curious as to what your car looks like now also. Of course, I suppose I have never seen it to begin with, so you know, lol.
