Re: Vtec indicator light problem

the wire you are tapping into is wrong, peteypab,
you need the Blu/Blk wire on the B connector pin
#9 on the harness side.
in other words, the second connector from the bottom of the ECM,
the pin is in the middle row 2nd slot from the bottom of the connector.
I tried to attach a picture from the service manual, but ALLDATA
won't allow me to touch the thing.
anyway, Good luck, and don't blow your ECM (the thing runs about
$800.00)

hey Peteypab, i did some research on my own '01 Civic this weekend
and have all the info ya need, however I came to the conclusion
that the light is pretty redundant. I hooked a test light up to the power wire for the vtec accuator to see when it actually engauges. I discovered that the vtec will enuage as low as 2,500 rpm under
a mild to moderate load on the engine. The only time it isn't engauged is at idle or crusing under no load, making it impossible to drop out of
vtec when racing, or accelerating for that matter. but anyway, if you
are still interested in a light tapp into the green w/ yellow strip on the
middle connector, second pin from the top on the middle row as
you are looking at the back of the harness.
Don't use what i suggested before with the blu/blk wire, with the
way the circuit is wired and the senisitivity of the ECM it is
impossible to tap into the oil pressure switch with out throwing a
"VTEC Oil Pressure SW Circuit" code. if you have thrown a code, chances are the engine won't rev over 4 grand now, don't freak, just unplug your battery for about 30 min. or so and the code will clear from memory (be sure you have your "radio code" handy after you plug the battery back or you won't get no jams afterward...). again Good Luck.
