Before considering any changes to your current car check into your state emission laws, this may prohibit you from making any changes.

If emissions are not a concern I would consider what you really want from the car, what you are using it for, what your mechanical ability is, and how much money you have to spend. The easiest and probably cheapest improvement would be as mentioned above and install a B230FT engine from a 700 or 900 series Turbo, stock they produce about 165HP and with minor modifications it is easy to increase the unit to 225-240 HP. More HP is attainable but at an ever increasing cost.

I believe that a car is an individual expression and I do not hold any loyalty to maintaining any car to factory-derived power plants. Engine swaps are a long respected way of individualizing a car. Many Volvo's are equipped with Ford V8's, Chev V8's, Rover V8's, Toyota Supra turbo 6's, Buick GN V6 turbo's, Lexus V8's, and many many other combinations. Personally I appreciate any car that the owner has taken the initiative to improve, whether that improvement has been made to stock components or improvements based on highly modified or altered components based on the individuals own desired results.

Think of the cars that we never would have seen if no one swapped engines, Sunbeam Tigers, Jensen Interceptors, Shelby Cobra, to name just a few.

There is a lot of technical experience and opinions on the internet, seek advice and suggestions, they are all valid and valuable, then decide on your own, good luck.
