Some pics of the upcomng Civic 5door hatchback

I like the 5 door hatchback layout. 2/3rd of the functionality of a station wagon, room for your tall friends in the back, with the handling of a coupe. I am encouraged to see it finally being accepted byAmerican consumers. Its a good, compact configuration to turn into a pocket rocket that you can live with (Mazda Protoge5 comes to mind). Honda, as it almost always does, is playing it safe on styling, but that's their marketing pitch (reliable).

It may not look wild, but I am amazed at how dignified my civic looks in a parking lot. (When its clean, at least.)

For my money, the hatchbacks look better in the Focus/Protoge/Civic lineup than the notchbacks. Honestly, I think the manufacturers could save some money by simply making 5 & 3 door bodys and ignoring the notchbacks, but hatchback still means "cheap" to some American buyers. I think you'll see the industry come around to a more european look in the next decade.

i dont get how a "5 door hatchback" is different thatn a station wagon? its just a short wagon? its still a wagon right? my impreza wagon is 1 inch shorter than a 2 door acura rsx, but i still consider it a wagon, i dont think its different just cuz its short.

A Wagon usually is intented for family purposes, carrying stuffs, or just when a sedan isn´t enough. The 5 door hatchback is suposed to be more sporty and economical (not always) and considerably shorter than a wagon (i.e VW Golf, Ford Focus ZX5, for instance it has less cargo room than a Wagon and it nevers applies as a candidate for regular families (well except the european Civic)
But now there´s cars than are half way wagon - hatchback, like the Mazda 323 Protegé.
I strongly think the Impreza Wagon is just that, a Wagon, like the previous one that looked more familiar.

i dont know if youve ever driven an impreza wagon, but i think those other cars u mentioned were WAAAY more intended for families than it is...

No I haven´t, what I should have said is that the Impreza Wagon is a SportWagon like the Alfa 156 SportWagon, and I found that combination very interesting as an alternative to sports cars.

dident honda already try a Civic Wagon with like the 3rd gen civics? they looked like crap not the hatch back but it was really was like a wagon
