Re: exaust

well, i agree, the 2.8 is about a boat anchor, its a lame excuse for a v6, however i have a friend with a full size chevy and a 4.3 in it, all he has done is dual exhaust and it seemed to help him alot. on my blazer though, i simply have a borla muffler and it seems to sound good to me, i dont know exactly the sound your lookin for, but mine is quiet but throaty.

I want the same as you, a nice quiet, throaty sound. I had "cherry bobms" on my V8 S10, but it was ALL motor sound coming through; sounded awesome, nice low rumble till you hit the gas then WHAM....

Guess I'll try it this week and if I don't like it, I'll just put the old exhaust back on.

I am considering using "cherry bombs" ...
I had an '82 S-10 w/the 2.8L. I think Magnaflow or Flowtech make a catback setup for the truck, however, I just welded up a turbo muffler from checker. They are only about $20 and give the little 2.8L a surprisingly nice exhaust note. And as for power, my truck could SMOKE 5.0 'Stangs. Well, up to about 50MPH at least, ;-). I had the 4spd manual, no power steering, no AC, and I took off the smog pump. Without any accessories on it, the 2.8L is not a bad engine. When I sold the truck a few years back, it had 320,000 miles on it with the original engine/trans.

Re: exaust

Thanks smoothchev for your input. Now I will make the exhaust, probably this weekend. I am surprised that you got more power from the "boat anchor". I don't care about power, I want the nice sound !!!

i just put the ravin 70 series, the suv muffler, and i love it! low key, throaty when you step on it, pretty quiet at idle. i'm very happy with it. only thing, the exaust shop replaced the cat and from that back they put 2.5in pipe, and now it's throwing a code. oh boy. it runs perfectly, but the light is on. gay.

First, go to Autozone and get the code scanned. That will pinpoint the problem area.

We can't do anything until you do that.

I have a 87 2.8 with duals and a glass pack muffler(cherry bomb). I don't have a cat so it's LOUD, but for a tiny 6 it doesn't sound bad. I would suggest just spending a few more and ordering a flowmaster original 40 series from jegs or summit instead. I wish I would have but I know the owner of an exhaust shop and he only charged me $150 for mine from the y-pipe back.

Also, the tips you choose also effect the sound. The have a megaphone effect, the larger and longer the tip-generally the louder and deeper the sound unless you go to large and then it sounds like an lawn mower.

I am from MS and S10's are a hott mini-truck in MS. Every S10 in my area has the 4.3 with stock headers, stock cat, and a single in single out Flowmaster 40 series. It sounds great. It has a real deep and mellow tone. No pissed off bumble bee stuff. I recommend a 40 series flowmaster.
