Hey guys are these actually going to be fast instead of mediocre? Really, when was the last time a stock mustang could keep pace with an F-Body? Now that the F-Bodies are gone the stangs will probably be slower, but it will be the only cheap RWD american sports car. What a joke.

Stock vs Stock the 2001 Cobra is a HINT slower then the 2001 LS1 F-Body.
As I've said earlier, my car ran a 12.907@108 BONE STOCK...
That's a few tenths better then any stock Cobra I've ever seen.

However, now that the F-Bodies are leaving, Ford's not going to lower performance simply because they are the only one's in their class, they're going to try to go after Chevy's Corvette.
Although I think they can get close, I don't think they'll pull it out unless they up their displacement. Even so, Chevy plans on going with either a bigger motor, 5.7L DOHC or 5.7L "2 in the Valley" setup or quite possibly a bigger DOHC motor...

here is some info on the 2003 cobra mustang
The Dearborn Assembly Plant (DAP) today began production of four 2003 Mustang Cobra coupes and one convertible. The convertible is slated to appear at the Cobra's introduction in Chicago this February.

The 2003 Cobras will feature a unique dual scooped hood and a unique Cobra only deck lid.

Big News? Cobra fans will get their wish: A six speed manual transmission. More details coming.

The new CObra is gonna get around 350, not 390hp, because it's slated to go head to head with the base Corvette. Plus, it is possible that the new Cobra will be the launch for new technology in the Ford line, for example onboard e-mail.:bandit:

thats because it will have a blower. Give one to the vette and see what happens. Chevy is not gonna lay down with the corvette either.
the new Z06 has 405 hp n/a. And theres talk of 450 plus for the next Z06, to go after the viper i suppose

The '03 ZO6 is getting 425hp now.
They are using a slightly better head design.
I'll bet some guys will run 11's right out of the box.

Come '04 and the intro of the C6, the base Corvette will get somewhere around 405hp. With the ZO6 getting around 450. Of course, there's also talk of a "big block" version that will make near 500hp!

I agree that thing has been hit with the Mercury Cougar ugly stick. But I remember when the SN95 first came out we where not pleased and the same thing goes for the current body style. I'll wait to see what rolls out of Dearborn before passing final judgement. If Billy fails me, it's time to buy that teal '93 Cobra...

Ford did whack it with an ugly stick, plus ive heard it will have less HP than the terminator. What kinda crap is that?
If Ford does plan to run with the vette, they need to up the cubes cause as far as i see it their going nowhere.
It bothers me to the fact that they have to supercharge to make 390..
All a chevy guy has to do is throw a few bolt ons and they are already beating the cobra.
I love ford cars and my cobra but they still havent done right in my eyes when it comes to making a modern muscle car.
cause as long as ford slacks,we the buyers have to spend just that much more money to keep up with the competition.
Ford needed to put the new roush 347 in the cobra,430Hp before charging...thats muslce that even vette owners would fear.
With the name Cobra..it should be feared

Sorry but i had to spout.
