Re: Re: Re: 454 drop
New here and not sure message is in right place, but I was following the El Camino discussion and wanted to add some things.I do believe the first ones were based on the Impalas. After that they were based on the Chevelle station wagon. The monte carlo front bumpers were nearly identical-closer than Chevelles.but they weren't based on monte carlos. The Chevelle station wagon front clip part #s are the same as el camino....chevelle isn't.Chevelle front clip will fit but not exact. There's a small diff in length and some trim lines. The station wagon tail lites are the same and I believe rear bumper......There's a plate behind the cab in the bed that's bolted in almost to the wheel wells that's where the back seat goes on the wagon. It's a wagon frame and body with a few mods.I owned a 70 for over 20 yrs and learned a lot of useless info. The rare one in is the GMC Sprint which is the same-just a lot less made.If I had it to do over-it would get the 454.BTW the 454 Vega is fast and spooky, friend built one,it was..........fun.Just a few thoughts.....oh.... and hi everyone!

Yeah, I had to research basic GM corporate history. Me, the guy who can tell a Bizzarini from an Iso. I've only spent my life compiling data on ALL performance machines, learning the sublties of marques long since past.
I doubt you've ever even heard of a Facel Vega, let alone know that what drove the Facel company under was the desire to move away from using Chrysler V-8's and instead use their own French developed power. How about this? What were Enzo Ferrari's other life's ambitions? Bet you didn't know that he wanted to become a journalist (which is why he personally wrote the Scuderia company newsletter) and to become a singer. I stand corrected that I misread your statement, but DO NOT challenge what I know when it comes to automobile trivia. I haven't spent a (admittedly short) lifetime as a sports car historian for someone to tell me that I couldn't say off the top of my head that 427 Camaros were all special order.
