Kick ass! The last time there was any accountability in California was when Pete Wilson was in office. It’s a good thing Arnold tapped him. Much better then the tax and spend into oblivion crowd that followed him.

There was no near depression or revenue shortfall anything like there is right now in California.

Energy producers didn't get away with falsifying a shortage in order to rape the consumers, nor were any secret bailout contracts signed to ensure the distribution companies like PG&E or Edison (who sold off most of their power production ability to these crooks in the first place) would have to be on the hook for it.

We were trying to get the INS to do it's job and deport illegals rather than handing out licenses at the border.

We weren't driving the economy into oblivion with scary expensive worker's comp, outrageous energy bills or rising property taxes (that's not even getting into environmental regs).

And politicians weren't allowed to conspire against passing a budget so that they could change the CA Constitution from a 2/3's majority vote to a simple majority for passing new legislation. That one was caught because one small group of very stupid Democrats accidentally left the conference room's mic on and broadcast their plans throughout the capitol building.


But yes, Pete Wilson was not a great governor. That doesn't mean his staff was incompetent though, just like people working for Davis might very well be great at their jobs. It's better leadership that we needed then and now, worker performance has always had as much to do with who's in charge as who's doing the work. One thing I can definitely say about Arnold is he's got backbone, he's not the type that will instantly falter against opposition in Sacremento. I'll give him his day in court because he's earned it, perhaps you should too.

He's responsible for a $38 billion dollar budget shortfall (out of a 100 billion dollar budget), and about $12 billion worth of fraudulent energy billing. That doesn't even get into the issue of worker's comp prices (which are as much as ten times more expensive for employers than in neighboring states), lost jobs and the like. It's an ugly situation, it's not all his fault but it is his responsibility.

I'm confused though, is your argument trying to defend Davis by focusing attention away from his blunders? Cause it's not working, he was recalled because he wasn't fit to lead. Whether or not you feel the same way about Bush is a seperate issue, we're talking about Davis and California.

They spent ~100 billion over the past year, but only got ~60 billion in taxes. How any government could over project tax earnings by nearly 40% is beyond me, but clearly the folks up in Sacramento haven't been doing their job at all. Hence the heads rolling and all.

Like I said though, it's about more than just the budget crisis. Important legislation has been passed that over 70% of Californians disagreed with, a criminally generated power crisis wasn't dealt with at all, and we were lied to about the budget "shortfall" (to use Davis's words) during his last election campaign. He said it would be as high as 8 billion (which was already a bone of contention during the election race), then after the election was done the number suddenly ballooned to 38 billion. Add to this the general feeling that Davis was just incapable of dealing with our problems and isn't willing to listen to the People on key issues, and he's now out of a job. Bush may find himself in the same position next year, but again that's a seperate issue.

Alot of news reporters in England concluded that the USA is doomed if people are stupid enough to vote for Arnold. I disagree. The ability to govern doesn't seem to be anywhere near that of the importance to be able to present one's self and seem appealing.

Should be interesting though. I want to see what Arnold will do because he's been spounting for ages about getting into politics less not we forget numerous actors have become politicians at some level or another. Clint Eastwood, Jerry Springer (close enough to an actor), Ronald regan and probably more that i don't know and can't be bothered to dig up because it really doesn't make any difference to me what happens...........never mind

Actually, that law has needed to be changed for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't changed in the next few years. Arnold and our governor (Granholm) should both be eligible to run. They've been here long enough.

Note: I wouldn't vote for Granholm for anything (and didn't) but she should have the opportunity to run. She's been a citizen for over twenty years (from Canada).

We need more presidents of Reagan’s ability and principles. Anyone who runs the country the way he did will also be one of our greatest presidents.
