Good/Strange News

I sold my pop charger this weekend and oddly enough my car performs way better with my stock airbox rather than with the so called performance optimized part. Go Figure?? I find that quite strange! Off the line acceleration is like day and night however it still needs to be tweaked but it's good news especially when I got my P11 insurance quote! OUCH, I'd hate to be gay cuz my anal would be in some serious pain!

It all depends how you treat your Car... My 91 P10 has 153K on it and still can smoke most hondas, with ease. Yes, you may find your self spending money to bring your car up to speed. But it beats a money payment.

Plus you get the satifaction of owning an infiniti...

i thought about changing to a p11 as well... saw a 99 for 13k down here in arizona- had 54k miles... not bad.

but- really though- i have a 93 p10 and it's worth maybe 4500 bucks... when you weigh in the costs involved- will it take the difference in costs 8,500 dollars (13k-4.5k=8.5k) to achieve the same levels of satisfaction on both cars?

like- stick with my 4,500 p10 and add a couple thousand to make it running really well...

or- drop the car and get a loan for 8,000 to get into a car that is heavier, slower, higher in insurance, and needless to say- i would be more worried about it because it costs so almost three times what the p10 is worth. and- the added thing of having a car payment... - ick.

stick w/ the p10...

mucho better.

You need a new fan resistor. It is under the glove box where the passengers feet go. Really easy to switch out. My friend just had to switch his out but I don't remember the price of the resistor was. Probably too much to worry about it.

Well..........look at it his way...

If you do get a P11, you'll probably have to spend the same amount or more to put on the same mods that you have on your P10. Now add car payments and higher insurance on top of that. As for leather, you can have that done at a shop that specializes in custom interiors. When you do the math, the P10 will give a better value in the long run.

P11 Vs. P10

The P11 may be heavier, but it is a lot less of a mechanical headache! The P10 has many suspension components which will go with time (upper links, lower A arms), don't forget about the CV joints/ half shafts, oh yeah did mention the injectors... Don't get me wrong I love the P10 but the P11 is way more advanced......:

This is exactly the reasins that I want to switch over. I also love the new body style, the climate control and the two tone leather in the latter year p11s. I love my P10 Dont get me wrong its just that mechanically I would be getting myself something more reliable. There aint many 10+year old cars around with less than 60k on 'em. Im just at a stalemate. I love my P10 but I drove a '91 last week and my car drives like a sack of sh!t next to this thing and it was completely stock. I dunno, maybe I'll leather her out put some tv's in the head rest drop in a turbo!!!

But at the same time if Im gonna invest why not do it on a newer G20.??? I dunno confusion is setting in and Stewart's Gettin upset

That is incorrect, I had the 5th gear pop out in my 99 P11. But the dealer fixed it. It was a couple years ago, while I was driving home from L.A. to the Bay Area.

You know CanandiaG I had the same thoughts you had a while back. Thought I wanted to get something else (P11, Legend, 325i), but I decided my car is pretty tight for a 9 year old car. It looks good, I've takin great care of it, and most of all--I own it(no payments). All the things you listed about the problems is natural. I don't care what car anyone has; with age and mileage, things will go wrong. I've replaced the cv thing, struts, brakes, and clutch in the past 2 years, but before that...not a thing. My starter died on me 3 weeks ago, so I ain't driving my G, it's still parked on the street. Wished I knew how to find it and replce it. Anyhow, if you really want to make the financial committment than go for it. I've 105thousand miles on my G, but its still running strong and the girls on campus sweat the G. Do whatever is in your best interest for you!

JKDonger...starter...

The SR20DE starter isn't that hard to replace. If you can get the car into the air (on a lift) it is exposed from the bottom. It is basically a unplug & unbolt, bolt up & plug in process. A factory starter isn't badly priced, you would be looking at $170.00 (after core rebate). If you have any questions you can e-mail me @ [email protected]....

I've got a problem with trying to change it myself thought, my car is parallel parked on the street and I have no way of moving it till other people move there cars. Also, I can't get up in the air, I have no tools and jack stand s here at school. Now if I was at home, I think I could be able to pull it off. Anyhow, I think Iam gonna have to nut up and get it towed to a shop and get raped with some labor fees. Thanks for your help anyways:sun:

For the P10's sake, I have to disagree. IMO Nissan built the P10 when R&D funds were flowing as hard as their wind tunnels. As for the suspension, i've had shops tell me "it looks bullet-proof" Advanced would be a P11 with a stock SR20VET, not P11 with an 11 year old SR20DE and some x-tra lbs. I still like the P11, but where's the oem awd?

TRBOBRK thanks for the advice.

This would be true excluding the fact the R&D is funded now more than ever (since '97). In 1997 Infiniti/Nissan made a big push within their R&D department due to the heavy losses they were seeing in warranty dollars. Since then they have actually been calling Dealers to send back failed parts in order for re-design, and re-production for pre assembly parts. Thus the P11 has less failed parts than the P10 (such as bushings in the suspension, and drive train components). Dealers have actually been forced to sell more customer pay repairs because the post 1997 produced models have less problems. This is also why you all may have seen increases in labor rates and/or parts pricing from your local dealerships.
