what made you buy gm?

Noticed that Chevy parts were easily the most readily available at the lowest cost, that aftermarket parts were common and usually lower priced than those for Ford and Dodge, and that generally, non-specialist mechanics had an easier time working on GM prices.

Since I want to relocate to a very rural area to escape corporate America as much as possible I knew I needed an American truck since over yonder 'cross the holler the good old boys wrenching for a living would know American stuff the best. Thus, Toyota, etc. were out of the running and Chevy made the most sense.

Plus, Dodge just dosn't have the reliabilty it should have based upon my research and Ford seems to be concentrating on the in-city Yuppie crowd who don't use a truck the way "real" men use one.

I bought my Chevy for not only aesthetic reasons, but also because no one makes a better V8 period. When I looked into buying a full sized truck I looked at all of them. Ford, Dodge, and Toyota. (In 2002 the Nisan Titan had not been released yet, not that I would buy one anway.) When I drove them none seemed as solid as the GM or Chevy. It was very car like while leting you know that it was still a truck. The back seat of the extended model was extrordinarily roomy, unlike other models especially the Tundra. When you look under the hood it is a familiar and beautiful sight, that small block stairing you in the face lets you know here is decades of GM perfection. I know that as long as I change the oil frequently, it will run for 300,000 miles. If I do need to rebuild it there are are as many manuals, and guides out there as I would ever need. If I don't want to do it myself there are plenty of GOOD Chevy mechanics out there. If I go to a shop or garage way out in the middle of nowhere they will have GM parts if they have anything. There is a lot of hype about the new Dodge Hemi, but realisticly the design is outdated, the hemispherical head is useless now it's all just a bunch of buzz words. I guess what it comes down to is that the most important part of any truck is the engine, and GM makes the best. I'm glad to own my Chevy and I hope that it will serve me for a long time.

As with many of you I have grown up with a driveway full of chevy. I own a 92 silverado 4x4, and i love it, i wouldn't wanna drive anything else. I also turn wrenches for a living and i've worked on Ford, dodge and chevy, and some foreign, but i would work on a chevy any day of the week compared to working on that other crap. the foreign is probably the worst, and ford not far behind, dodge is no picnic either. so from a mechanics choice i choose chevy, but also from a personal choice of looks and dependability i choose chevy, also my dad has a 98 silverado 4x4 with over 218,000 miles on it and it looks like new drives like new (still has original bilstein shocks on it) and the motor has never been touched, we tuned it up at 180,000, and that was only cap and rotor and plugs. so in short chey rules and every thing else sucks.

i bought chevy for two reasons; first my dad has always had chevy cars and truck and even buys chevy vans and trucks for his fleet vehicles. I have never heard of a serious complaint about any of them. Second reason: before buying a truck of my own i intially wanted a dodge, until i did some researching and found that the larger chrylser 360 engine was less powerful than the smaller 350. Also i am a very serious off roader (i have a mud hole dug in my back yard) i have not once ever had to be pulled out by anyone, i have been stuck but i got myself out. i have put my truck thru hell and it still runs great and i can still beat any stock rice mobile. i can never see me buying another truck.

Had problems with EVERY Ford I ever had. Bought my first Chevy in 1980 and have not looked back since. Die Hard Chevy Man.

Have to admit that every time I trade in I go drive Ford, Dodge, Nissan, Toyota and the Chevy always feels, looks, and rides better.

Also - I'm only 6' 3" so I'm not tall enough to to be able to see into the bed of the New Ford F-150 without lowering the tailgate. Whats up with the tall sides on the F150 box?? Its ugly too!

My father always had a Chevy truck in the driveway and worked the hell out of all of them. I learned to drive in a 64' stepside pickup with a 3 speed on the column and we didn't get rid of it until it had almost 225k on it. The Fords are better than the Dodges but the engines and suspensions on the Chevys have always been second to none!

Why did I buy my 96 Z71 Ext CAB vs any other truck? I go for looks like everyone else. I like the way my truck looks, period. But, I also buy my vehicles for different reasons than your average joe. I buy vehicles based on how well they are engineered, how hard they are to work on or maintain, and last how expensive they are to fix and how hard are parts to find. I decided that I love my truck for these reasons: It's built well, on the outside it doesn't feel like a piece of plastic rolling down the road. It rides very well for a 4 wheel drive and the handling is predictable. It has an excellent track record for the 5.7L and the 4L60-E transmission. I like that it is OBDII compliant. GM wires their vehicles in a straight-forward manner, with Ford I've found that the quality of the wiring is less than to be desired. Dodge wiring is a head-ache sometimes to understand. The layout of my truck is clean and organized, from under the hood to the layout of controls and dash gauges. Parts are available everywhere, and accessories are just as abundant. I don't have to worry about mystery problems showing up, per se. My particular year, I have found, seems to have the least number of weird problems or manufacturing weaknesses. I love the fact that I don't have a passenger side airbag, or electronic push button 4 wheel drive. The Pass side air bag in the 97+ takes away that nice cupholder in the dash. The push-button 4 wheel drive is just asking for problems associated with expensive, proprietary control boxes, I'm very happy with the manual transfer case shift lever I have. And one last thing, I get great gas mileage with my truck(24hwy/14city) and I expect to get a little more mileage with new Bridgestone Revo A/T tires. I have never paid any shop to do work on my vehicles, nor do I think I ever will. I do not wrench professionally, but all my personal friends have me help them with their vehicles. I just chose a long time ago not to ever get taken advantage of by a mechanic. So I became my own. -Chris

I've always like Chevy Products. Parts are reasonable and readily available, most of the time. I Guess in all honesty it's the "whiney" Ford Power Steering pumps that have always thrown me off of them.

A drunk driver rammed me from behind when I was waiting for a green light and I was driving a nissan sentra that I had just paid for with my cristmas bonus. I got the worst part cause my neck still hurts after a year has passed, he was driving a van. With my Chevy even taxi drivers get out of my way. Everybody on the road respects or fears these trucks for their size and power, personally O love it when people get out of my way and don´t cut me off.
