Just going with the topic at hand.

If we wanted control by force, the southern boarder wouldn't be so porous.

Gotta love the US Govt on this one.

"No, Delta Force does not exist. I dont care that the former CO wrote a book about it."

"Yes, Delta Force does exist. In fact, we're making a movie about them."

"Delta Force? What Delta Force?"

I can understand not admitting it, since that gives an edge, but admitting it exists then dening it exists? I dont see much logic in that.

I did not vote for any of them. All have their strengths and weaknesses, which then is complemented by each other.

A couple of FYIs:

1) The Marines fall under the Department of the Navy.

2) The Air Force actually has one of the most exclusive Special Forces teams in our Armed Forces, topped only by the Delta. They're called Pararescue and Combat Control. They're harder to get into than the SEALs. There are a few hundred Pararescuemen in the world, compared to the SEALs and Rangers, which count reaches into thousands.

When a SEAL team many years ago got cornered in Panama, it was the Pararescuemen that got them out. They were also the ones that got that downed pilot in Bosnia, among many other heroic things they have done.

The Combat-Control people do what air-traffic controllers do. BUT, the planes that they land are usually carrying supplies/troops, and these planes are trying to land into hostile territory. So they have to drop in before everybody else, and make sure everythings clear/neutralized, for the following contingent.

Just letting people know about some of our lesser-known heroes.

Not trying to sound smug but SEAL's etc and a few other so called special forces units from good old usa perform pretty damned poorly when on joint exercises here. One such instance was when 2 american units ran an exercise against a Brit SAS team and an Aussie SAS team, Brit's were apparently near flawless, Aussie's finished just behind, the two american units, ie SEALS and green beret's got LOST and never even started. But then again, massive casualties also seem to be ok for these units too.

You're allowed to sound smug. The SAS is THE most exclusive SF team in the world. They recruit only the best of the best from all friendly nations, including the US.

Delta...which doesn't exist, BTW...is based on the SAS. It was started by a US Colonel that was actually a member of the SAS.

I would say, stamina-for-stamina, athleticism-for-athleticism, the SAS troops rival or better some of the better Olympic athletes. Some of those athletes won't last the training.

Technology is where the US military has the edge over any other nation, and the Airforce has a whole lot of it. A platoon of Green Berets is pretty scary, but a stealth bomber that will drop a present down your chimney from 30,000 feet before you even know it's there is really scary...

I didn't say NASA was a military service. I said it was created from a branch of the airforce that did testing of prototype air vechiles like supersonic jets and rockets. After the creation of NASA, it was no longer a part of the military. I do feel that they have the best technology of any govermnemt program though, military or not. And, as for the shuttle, it was proposed to Regan, or Nixon, I forget who was in office at the time, that it could be used as a Cold War space weapon even though NASA is not a military program. They even said that the president became giddy at the thought of having this piece of technology and that was one of the major reasons why he let it be made.
