Well, I consider myself an exper on this subject

I got the Escort 8500 and it's great. However, what some of these guys have been saying is true. If a cop decides to just cruise and not have his radar on, he could be right behind you and you would never know until he flashed his lights. However, I've noticed that most cops cruise with their radar on, so that's not that big of a problem. I've used the V1, and it falses a bit too much, goes crazy for anything. The Escort 8500 doesn't, and it definitely screams if there is a real cop around. These are the different type of radars

K band - Pretty narrow, so it gives a better reading (easy to detect)

X band - the oldest radar they have, most don't even use it anymore (pretty easy to catch)

KA band - the radar for lazy cops. It almost scans the entire area in front of them (it's easy as hell to catch too) most cops (in my area) use this cause they lazy

Finally, there's laser. Laser is unrecognizable until it is actually SHOT at YOUR car. In other words, if you're speeding, and you get a laser reading on your detector, you're fucked. Cops never use this cause they have to move and stuff, and they don't like to do that.

POP radar - supposedly the newest radar out right now. Supposed to be VERY hard to detect, I don't know much about it. I KNOW my detector doesn't catch it and neither does the V1. However, it's still in experimental stages and is RARELY ever used.

I think I answered your questions. Just ask if you need help with anything else on this subject

I believe the police down in Newport Beach are using POP.

Here is the #1 A-hole company responsible for lining the pockets of pigs: http://www.mphindustries.com/product...radar_pop.html

Yes, the Police can radar you from the front of back when they are moving.

The problem with radar dectectors is that by the time they warn you it is too late. Usually the police will turn it on right at the last moment and trap your speed. There is nothing you could do.

Save your money and don't focus on street racing so much.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing all the money and devotion in this forum invested in firearms and protection of our right to bear them. Over in Completely Off Topic we're being screwed over one day at a time.

You could aways get a radar Blocker. They would stop even the new pop radar but the good ones are pricy. One would want one that both blocks and warns.

Those don't work.

A real radar jammer would take up your entire trunk and cost a lot more than your car. I have seen tests and every one of them is a farse.

I know that the Valentine is good and SCC just tested the Escort and said it was very good as well. The problem is that the police usually wait to activate the radar right as you pass them. There still are radar traps that they will protect you from though. Also, the laser feature is useless since they would have to hit the detector direct on for it to go off.

Re: I got a........

the higher, the radar frequency (Ka), the shorter the effective range and the more the radar field is affected by dust, snow, rain, etc. Higher frequiecies are harder to detect though. A detector can help if the cop has his radar on, or if they are ahead or behind you and check another car, you can get warnings for a couple kilometres under the right conditions. Also, radar behind can be reflected off bridges, signs or other traffic and give a warning. Laser must be stationary (on a tripod) and can't be fired through glass. you dont have much hope, unless a car ahead of you gets zapped, where you'll have a couple hundred metres of warning. so all in all they can be useful, I loved my Bel until some asswipe stole it cuz I forgot to take it out one night. Saved me about a half dozen times. The only radar jammer I know that worked reasonably was made by Rocky Mountain Radar in Co., but they got dished a cease and desist order, to be legal, a jammer has to be useless. laser jammers work much better, radar bands are gov't regulated, laser wavlenghts arent, so jammer manufacturers have more leeway, Car & Driver did an article using a popular laser jammer and reported it worked quite well.

The continuum transfunctioner is a very mysterious device. and its mystery is exceeded only by its power.
