YOu dont even have to use one can. If you dont put too many layers on your car, you would probably have enough paint in one can to spray to car bodies.

Im workin on a tamiya skline R34, and so far ive used one full can of tamiya mica blue spray paint. I dont use primerz (not yet at least)... and i had only put about 3.5 layers of paint.... including the bumpers and side skirts... and i ran out... lookz like ill have to buy more paint to finish my coats, and for my side mirrorz and my wing... so id say about a can and a half

Solid color, 3 cars per can
metallic color, 2 cars per can

Honestly, never used more than 1 can on 1 car.

like putting the cars and can into a sealed container, then blowing up the can?

But like a Tamiya model, or a simple Revell one will take 1/2 a can of Duplicolor. As for Tamiya sprays, they run out too fast on me so I don't use them because they cost too much.
i usuaully ues testors or Base coat clear coat for my models, ive used tamiya once or twice and love it, but one can barely does a model.

i can get about 3 cars off of a bottle of testors.

and if my brother is painting a car a color i like, at the body shop he works at, i get him to spray the car and stuff like that for me.

About 1 can to a car. Which is really becoming an expensive exercise at the moment. Would also like to know how the guys that get more out of 1 can do it.

testors is verfy thick, and usually one good cote is all i do on a car from them.
thought tamiya goes on thinner and requires more coats then just one.

Takes me Tamiya spray can per model.

It takes me that much because I don't want to polish though paint.

If I only had one layer on I'd rub through it in a minute.

Quote TDoty = "I get 2-3 cars out of a can of Tamiya. I love Tamiya paints because they go on so smooth and the spray nozzle beats Duplicolor and Plastikote to smithereens!
Also, I do have an airbush, and I love it! But, sometimes I am just too lazy to do the setup and cleanup - rattle cans are faster! Besides, if I can get the color I want in a spray, I'll use that. "

Ditto the above.

Are you sanding back the paint - or - the clear coat which is harder?
It sounds like you are sanding back the paint and it is not gassed out enough (hardened) if you cant get it smooth with a light rub before clearcoating.
I will apologize now if I am wrong but that is what it sounds like from my experience.
I am very curious to know what happens to the panel lines if you use 2.5 to 3 cans or is it all sanded off between coats? so you basically start again with each coat.
