Re: Belkits tyres eating paints on the rims, any suggestions?
Me and few of my friends have the same problem. I asked Belkits what should I do to avoid this and never get any answer.
I have all their kits and all have the same problem (except Polo WRC which I didn't started due to very poor decal quality). Why to build another kit and see it damaged in few months? I used acrylic automotive Spies Hecker white and Gunze TopCoat to paint the rims. |

What's the problem with the decals..? I was going to buy the Polo, but if the decals are not so good I'll wait a bit to see if they sort it out...

Re: Belkits tyres eating paints on the rims, any suggestions?
Yes I think a metal foil would work. I don't think paint on the inside of the tyres can solve this since the tyre would also react with the paint and maybe more or less mess it up.

Re: Belkits tyres eating paints on the rims, any suggestions?
thank you guys for helping me. So far I think a metal foil may resist the reaction of the tyres. Never tried cooking the tyres but this may also work. I once thought about replace this tyres with some after market products but thanks to the unique design of the rims, those new tyres just won't fit. I don't think Belkits could fix this problem unless they change the production site. It's a shame that a well designed kit ruined by some mistakes.

stevenoble: I will take some pictures of decals sheet in few days when having more free time. The biggest problem is that color layers don't fits properly to each other.

Re: Belkits tyres eating paints on the rims, any suggestions?
Hi Guys.
i'm Steven from Belkits. I have seen this problem and got some mails for it, but i really cannot tell what is the problem and how it comes. We have several built kits here, already for years now, and all of them are without any problems. And we see several others, on modelling expositions, also without problems. I have informed now with the factory if they would know something. Maybe if some can put pictures here, or send them to [email protected], i can transfer them to factory. For those who have a bad Polo decal, send a mail to [email protected] and we will send a new good one. For all our new kits from Belkits (starting from the escort that will be in stock in about 3 weeks, all decals are now produced by Cartograf) Regards |

Re: Belkits tyres eating paints on the rims, any suggestions?
BMF is the tried and tested way to avoid it, as Bob says.If you don't have any, thin kitchen foil and PVA adhesive should work just as well... If the wheel is too complex a shape to wrap with one piece, then strips 5-10mm wide laid across the wheel and overlapping will work, and then trim them at the wheel edges once the glue has dried solid...

Re: Belkits tyres eating paints on the rims, any suggestions?
I have just started an Escort kit, using Revell contacta and Tamiya extra thin and i am
struggling to get any parts to bond .Do Belkits use regular kit styrene or is it more like an ABS type plastic.Anybody else had this problem? |

Re: Belkits tyres eating paints on the rims, any suggestions?
Revell contacta was fine to cope with Belkits. We do have to wait several minutes to let it set. Now i use super glue a lot and that works well.
