Re: Porsche 917K 71 Sebring Race 1st.No.3 Martini
Great work you are doing on this 917K. Realy clean work. I was wondering however how you made that effect on the rear of the seat, that looks very good. Did you spray paint through a template or something? Keep up this wonderful work.

Re: Porsche 917K 71 Sebring Race 1st.No.3 Martini
Regarding the overlapping number roundels on the side of the car, photos of the two Martini cars at Daytona in Januray 1971 suggest that both cars went to that race with normal roundels fitted, as used at Buenos Aires three weeks earlier. The larger roundels must have been fitted at some point during the Daytona meeting, and stayed for the next two races at Sebring and Brands Hatch. By Monza in April, the original smaller roundels were back.
Interestingly, photos of the no.1 'Gulf' car at both Daytona and Sebring also show another roundel has been fitted over the originals - although it is not as obvious as on the Martini cars. My guess? Probably something came up during scrutineering and they were asked/told to use a larger roundel. Maybe the Daytona and Sebring versions were more reflective, rather than just plain white? I've not found the 'official' reason in any of the books, though... Nice build - I can't help having a look at 917 threads! All the best, SB |
