Re: ok im a dummy but
Sorry, but since you don't want to fix the water pump, the w/p is going to leak....and if you keep adding water, with cold temps you run the risk of cracking your block....no easy way out on this.....the leak is just going to get worse.....

Re: ok im a dummy but
using pure water could cause some part to corrode faster. I personally wouln't be worried about this.
I'ld be more worried about freezing. You might be able to cheat a bit on the antifreese: check the back of it to see what is the mix ratio for the temperature... If it's not that cold, you might want to dillute it, as it would be less expensive. Beware to not dilute too much as it could freeze... Also, you might want to try some stop leak, It will probably not work, but if it does you would be happy. I personally don't recommand stop leak (sometime it block some small passages, causing expensive repair), but in your case I think it's a good solution, if it work. Unfortunatelly, there is only 3 solutions for you: - Replace the pump - Try some stop leak - Keep filling up (this can get very expensive very quickly) Remember that water freeze at 0C/32F, If it's higher than that then it won't freeze. If it's lower it can freeze. Also, since you add water, your anti-freeze will get dillued already, and if you don't ensure that your antifreeze circulate and mix then you can have some surprise... Adding dilluted antifreeze all the time might be a better idea... |

Re: ok im a dummy but
ok, no need to waste space on another thread talking about the same thing.
Falvo321, all your threads/post have been merged into one! Kinda silly jumping all over with multiple posts!! I would recommend using at least 50/50 coolant. If its any lower mix, you could have other major problems occuring if it does freeze! This water pump is not that expensive compared to a new engine or car. And its not hard to change. Here is a link for the procedure.

Re: Helllp coolant is going somewhere
Have you ever replaced a w/p on a quad 4? It's a nightmare!
This is a $700-$1000 job, depending on the area you live in(labor rates, parts cost, etc). W/p, thermostat, all gaskets(w/p, thermostat, ex manifold), coolant, possible belt, etc. |
