Re: Tyrrell P34 '76 Japan GP - Tamiya 1/20
Some decal work, now waiting just for clear coat, with X22 clear tamiya:
![]() ![]() ![]() In addition, assembly of the front suspensions. First, the corrugated ducts were scratchbuilt starting with a .60mm steel wire, covered with a silicone tube with 1mm diameter. This gives the duct the ability to be bended as you want. This last was then covered with a thin wire taken from a cable, very easy to model. Spacing between coils is uneven, so it appear to me more similar to the real one… At the end, a 1.6mm heat shrinking black tube. ![]() ![]() And this is the front suspension assembly, with self-made ammos and corrugated ducts. I also added the brake oil tubes, and some PE nuts in order to dissimulate some snap-on couplings. ![]() ![]() |

Re: Tyrrell P34 '76 Japan GP - Tamiya 1/20
· After some time spent very far from home, now I can post some new photos. I gave two coats of X22 clear, an left curing for about 1 week. After that, I start sanding out the clear from above the decals:
![]() Then, other two coats of X22. Even if seems good, I will wait another week, sand again in order to obtain a flat finish a I will give another coat of X22 (wishing) to have a uniform and shiny surface ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Tyrrell P34 '76 Japan GP - Tamiya 1/20
Some work has been done on the beautiful rain tyres by Icon. After some time spent in filling bubbles in resin…
I colored with tamiya XF85 rubber black that seems very near the real color. Then I passed X22 clear to the lateral part of tyre to avoid decal silvering, decal-job and then an overall coat of tamiya XF86 (flat clear). Nice, the lateral part (sorry, don’t know the technical term…)of tyre seems a little bit more semi-gloss, like real tyres. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then, I did some work on instrumentation. I prepared two small pieces of aluminium tube to simulate the rear of instruments. Then some color, instruments and decals in place (with some X22 to simulate the glass) and… that all! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Tyrrell P34 '76 Japan GP - Tamiya 1/20
Some work done for completing the rear mechanics: first of all, exhausts were substituted with aluminium tube ones, suitably sized and made thin in the end to best resemble the real thing. Then, two incisions madewith rotary tool to fix the pipes to the rear structure with 2K epoxy glue. A small piece of masking tape was added to simulate the supports, then some primer, and semi-gloss black
![]() ![]() Painted steel rods were used to simulate the link rods between the chassis and the suspensions. Moreover, since I was not convinced of the radiators mounting sequence (they should be fixed to the bodywork, but in this case it was practically impossible, IMO, to fix the oil tubes!), I decided to fix them to the chassis by means of a small piece of steel rod. Now, it looks more similar to the real car, and it is possible to work on oil pipes! ![]() ![]() Then, I added some oil tubes (a work not yet finished, as it’s clear), and I made some photos at the daylight. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Tyrrell P34 '76 Japan GP - Tamiya 1/20
Some time spent in sanding the last coat of X22 with micromesh and tamiya compounds (c only oarse and fine to avoid unrealistic very glossy finish). First of all, I added the front suspension blocks
Then I added the supports for instrumentation, already drilled for all wires I want to insert (I wish…). I also added the protection for the driver legs in the structure (it was easy to add and very nice to see), and some of the PE that are included in the kit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I prepared the seatbelts with an adhesive tissue by TMF with the PE included in the kit. I also added some small strips of blue adhesive to simulate the protection for the driver and glued to the seat by means of CA. With a small piece of aluminium from a beer can and a small piece of polyurethanic foam, I simulated the head support for the driver. Rivets are simulated by making some pressure with a small nail. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And then, I put all together. The work is still far from being complete, I have to adjust lot of small things, add PE on the body and complete the rear wing, but… I can see the light at the end, now!. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
