Re: McLaren Mp4/6
Jurgen - do you have a closer-up picture of the monocoque? it looks really good - have you seen "caymans" building a MP4/6 too. - John

Re: McLaren Mp4/6
Did some more work on the McLaren...
Decals just need to be cleared. The front wing "goodyear" decals need to be bigger. But since this is a re-release kit, no goodyear decals in the box Searched for some decals in the spare box and found these... Regards, Jurgen |

Re: McLaren Mp4/6
Jurgen - what paint did you use for the body work?? Caymen said that the "zero" fluorescent red in the MP4/X pack from Hiroboy was too orange - yours looks correct? Caymen repainted the "zero" fluorescent red with a "gaia" color Fluorescent red - John

Thanks for the confirmation Jurgen - I was wondering if the paint I bought would be any good. Maybe the "Tabu" decals that Caymen was using were wrong?? - I'll check with him - you two blokes are building some fantastic MP4/6 versions - John |

Re: McLaren Mp4/6
It's a common misconception and has been debated many, many times and never resolved about the correct shade of paint for the McLaren. Some say it's red and others orange. The Zero paint is correct in my opinion. I sprayed a test sample and took it along to the Donington Grand Prix Collection, to compare it to the real cars. It was a perfect match. I also took a sample of Tamiya TS-36 that day. It was a million miles away from the real colour and far too red. The correct shade is more orange than red, I believe it's actually RAL 3024. It's also extremely difficult to capture on camera, looking more red than orange. Rumour has it that McLaren painted the cars with a much brighter red than was necessary so that when the cars appeared on TV they actually matched the correct red of the Marlboro cigarette packets. The TV must dull the colours or something..

Re: McLaren Mp4/6
Hi Steve
As far as I recall, you've used the TABU decals on your mp4/5b - does their numbers have a correct colour ? I have a Gaia Color fluo red and orange, and I can report that the "right" tone is somewhere in between, as Hiroboy also states on their paint desc page |

Re: McLaren Mp4/6
What a great job you take. The engine is a last, as the part of the front suspension. Ell issue of decals and paint looks perfect. Animo.
Greetings. Saul. |

Re: McLaren Mp4/6
Thanks for the information Steve - I appreciate the first hand confirmation - I'm not a big fan of letting the decals "rule" the paint color - many of these aftermarket decals use inks that can change over time - especially fluorescent colors. Additionally fluorescent color absorb and reflect like differently than regular colors and it screws with camera film - maybe less with digital but it still does it. I will stick with my "Zero" MP-4/# setup. - John
