Thumbs up Re: Mirrors

Glad we got that cleared up, certainly seems interesting the amout of different cars those Citroen mirrors seemed to have attaced themselves to

I looked through some photos and it seems XP3 and XP4 both have/had the citroen mirrors (XP4 is definetly wearing them in the photos of it somewhere in california) and I also have a couple of photos of XP1 with the Citroen mirrors (I think its XP1, the photos are from road & track and the car doesn't have any indicators so I'm pretty sure its XP1) so it seems the Citroen mirrors where just used on the prototypes and not the production cars

Okay and now onto the indicators, after checking http://www.lotusespritworld.co.uk it seems to the indicators I am talking about are used on Lotus Esprits from the S4 (1993) right up until it ended production in 2003.

I just thought I would be nice to compile a list of OEMs Mclaren used since it doesn't seem to exist anywhere on the web. If there list of OEM's matched My list of OEM's then great, and if not then that's fine too.

here is my list so far:

GS battery

Dampers:
Penske Coil-Over Damper

Tyres:
Eagle F1 Supercar

Wheels:
Enkei (Mag)

Brake:
Brembo Brakes Gran Turismo Brake System 14"

Engine:
BMW Motorsports

Transmission:
Weismann

I'm Still looking for Interor OEM's

Actually, according to Road and Track, the F1 came with OZ magnesium wheels; however, McLaren racing does now use Enkei wheels. Also, the F1 only had/has 13.0 inch front brakes and 12.1 inch rear. In case your interested, the OEM tool supplier for the F1 was Facom, the electronics were handled by TAG, which is now a part of the McLaren group, Nardi provided the steering wheel, and, as stated elsewhere I believe, the sound system was a custom made Kenwood system. Interestingly, one of Brembo's biggest competitors, AP Racing, provided the triple plate carbon/carbon clutch. Additionally, you are absolutely correct that Weismann made the transmission (gaining several patents in the process), but Weismann did not make the differential; that was made by Torsen. Lastly, in addition to supplying the engine, BMW also supplied most of the interior controls.

Cheers

I have also a question about suppliers

McLaren use a gold foil at the engine cover, they use this foil also by the Formula 1 Cars until now.

does anyone know where is the manufacturer from this foil? I will use for a special project...it must not be the same company as mclaren use.....

From what I can recall, "Driving Ambition" doesn't mention a supplier for the gold foil anywhere. I would think if any source had, or if it was worth mentioning due to some level of perceived prestige, it would be in that book.

Gold foil shouldn't be that hard to come by though - I'd assume McLaren didn't necessarily use any fancy supplier. They probably just specified a thickness to meet their requirements, and probably a grade of some sort, and found a place that could fulfill the order.

A quick Google search for 'gold foil supplier' returned this page of links:

Re: Mclaren Info....

They are Corrado mirrors,
Italian lorrys rear lights (that are still fitted to the lorrys to this day)
and some far eastern comapanys parts!
There was nothing wrong with these oem parts. They did the job perfectly well, there was and still is no point designing new parts if there is already parts on the market that do what you want, perfectly

Sekurit provided all of the glass.

You're absolutely right, why redesign the wheel (figuratively speaking, because OZ did for the F1), if there is a ready-made part that fits the specifications, use it.

Red face SwitchGear

This is one of my first posts, not much info, but i hope its useful,

I believe the electric mirror switch is out of a Vauxhall (astra, calibra....), the fan vents are from a ford (escort, orion or whatever) and the up/down switch on the centre console is from a bmw (e30 3-series and many other models) im talking about the one next to the mirror switch by the gear lever.

Any one got anything to do with mclaren f1 to sell to me???

I just read that the gold sheets for the engine bay of the F1 were made custom, to McLarens specifications, by 3M.
