Re: #05R for sale!

I emailed the auctioner and asked if 5R is viewable for the public.

Well it is sort of. Only if you buy the catalog of 30 -40 euros you may enter their tent and watch and photograph the F1...

Well I think I'll do it then

Re: #05R for sale!

Some news unconfirmed :

1) #05R would be @ Sport et Collection this week-end.
2) A friend red it will have a ride on Le Mans Classic with M. Poulain at the wheel...

If someone can confirm, it will be great !

This may help you Phil,

http://www.lemansclassic.com/en/auction

Looks like Herve Poulain will be closing the hammer on #05R, a GTR is also listed for display in the Supercar area.

http://www.lemansclassic.com/en/supercars

It would be nice, if they brought #05R over, to run up the hill at Goodwood, the week before they sell their unique GTR .

#05 F1 GTR 'Art car' up for auction

My brother stumbled upon this news today...

http://www.paulfrasercollectibles.co...=26&docid=3342

And confirmed with this...

http://www.artcurial.com/en/asp/full...refno=10306840

Who ever buys it will be very very lucky! An amazing paint job. My guess 2.34 million Euro.

Re: #05R for sale!

I've been proven wrong before, but I'm going to go on record that their pricing estimate is rather ambitious for this car, and depending on if and where the reserve is set I think that it will be a no-sale at this auction.

The only way I can foresee being wrong here is if several potential bidders really put great value in the art-car livery and the story behind it and purchase the car for that reason. Artcurial are certainly up-selling it on that point in their auction description.

It might be one thing if this car had been preserved after the '95 LeMans race as #01R has been, but we all know it continued on racing for a few more years under several variations of a pair of liveries so I'd suspect what is on the car now is a repaint and not the original work.

Perhaps this car will bring a surprise?

Re: #05R for sale!

Err

the last pics seem recent and done at actual location (unknow for me) in south France.
It will be difficult to do decent shots @ LMC.

Re: #05R for sale!

That clip was stunning.
It's really fantastic to read the history of that incredbile livery. Fortunately, I have one...1/43.

I've received clarification on these comments through a friend who spoke with Artcurial ahead of tomorrow's auction:

"All Cesar originally did was paint his artwork on a model car. Someone else transferred that onto the car in paint. That same person did it again to restore the car."

This seems very strange to me. I can't think of any other famous Art Cars that weren't actually painted by the artist named, or for that matter any famous paintings where the artist did a small version and then someone else made the one to hang on the wall in the gallery. To me it's like a print made from an original work and those generally sell for less - and in this case, it's a reprint, not the first edition.

It will be very interesting to see the results from tomorrow's auction.
