Re: 1998 windstar electrical problem???
If you're saying that when you turn the key to the Start position to crank the engine, everything else turns off but then comes back to life when you release the key from the Start position then there's no point in doing that starter bypass which I suggested, because the same thing will happen.

Re: 1998 windstar electrical problem???
It's seems to be a short circuit somewhere in the ignition or starter circuit. Cause all the light go off at the same time that a relay click on.
It turns off when you turn it to RUN and START or to START only? If it turns off on START only, it may be a short circuit in solenoid, fuel pump circuit, PCM or ignition coil. To diagnose, remove fuse 20, 14, 12 one at the time and see if light still turn off. Engine may crank but not start and you'll locate the problem.
