Re: 1998 Lumina not running good after tune up
Yes, but I have to look the parking brake first otherwise it would backup. I would like to have this mechanism again, that I have to push the brake pedal first before I can shift gears.
So you mean that is the shift interlock solenoid which cost $900? |

Re: 1998 Lumina not running good after tune up
What??? A shift interlock shouldn't cost more than 9$.
It's not that the problem. Shift interlock is only to prevent to shift from park w/o pressing the brake. So that a child cannot move the lever when you leave the car with the keys. It's not essential for everyone. It has nothing to do with the park transmission lock. The park is used to block the front wheel by blocking the output shaft. Maybe there's still a problem with the park cable fixation.

Re: 1998 Lumina not running good after tune up
That is what the unfriendly guy at the parts at my nearest Chevy dealer told me. $900 because it comes with the whole steering weel column.
I need to find how I can tight it up. I know it is not important for driving but always to lock the park brake is annoying. |

Re: 1998 Lumina not running good after tune up
There's 2 separates problem. You don't need to replace the interlock or any part to fix your park mechanism.
When you shift gear, the black cable should not move from outside. If you touch it, you should feel the cable moving inside. Check if it's still connected at other side (from column to transmission).

Re: 1998 Lumina not running good after tune up
Just an update for those who are inerested in.
Could not fix the gear shifting thing, but I can change the gears without using the brake pedal now. So if I want go out of the park gear, I hit the parking brake and after that I can shift gears as long I do not shift in park again. Works for me and is a kind of anti-theft.
