I notice my SOHC ZC even though its running DPFI can handle hills infinitly better then my LX engine could. I used to drop like 10-15mph on a hill now i keep a steady speed all the way through unless im going over 90-95. and these aint no small hills either ... so dont let these b-series punks give yea shit man. switch your system to MPFI if you havnt already and show em what real men can do with a car.

shit, i'll vouch for mike's car... that single cam moves pretty good... considering i had 17's on the car, four 15's(rims) in the trunk and me and my girl (no excuses
we was running good... shit, i loved my single cam... but cant nothing take me away from being able to rev freely to 8200 and just hear the vtec wailing... my .02 cents

I personally think the only real difference is the ability to slighty fine tune a DOHC better than a SOHC motor...but with the SOHC ZC only making about 5hp?? less than the DOHC, they are pretty close.
Like Melt said, the first key is making sure whatever motor you get has a MPFI conversion...DPFI is great for economy, but a performance system it is not. I would say DOHC cuz I have one (albeit on an engine stand still ), and I think they look cool compared to a SOHC, but get whatever works for you. And to answer the Q from above - I think a DOHC ZC compression ratio is 9.5:1 and a d16a6 is 9.1:1, but I am not 100% sure. Edit - ZC = 9.6:1 I was close.http://hybrid2.honda-perf.org/tech/engine.html

I personally dont know the specs but common sense will tell u a couple things which u can draw your own conclusions from.
the D16a6 has 108hp SOHC NON VTEC the ZC has 130 hp DOHC NON VTEC the D16z6 has 125hp SOHC VTEC the D15B has 125hp SOHC VTEC SOHC ZC 125hp SOHC NON VTEC??? <--- i dont see how they can make a SOHC 1.6L engine put out the same horsepower stock as the SOHC VTEC engine, unless the SOHC ZC has a wild cam, which i doubt it does. If someone has a picture of a D16a6 piston, please post because i have seen the inside of a SOHC ZC block and want to know if the pistons are the same.. i am kind of wondering myself about the specs of the SOHC ZC, but like i said earlier, its a stretch to say it has 125hp. common sense says that if honda could squeeze 125hp out a 1.6L non vtec, then spending the extra money/technology on making a VTEC engine which was equal to that of the earlier NON VTEC engine is pointless. Im guessing that if anything, the sohc zc is the same as a d16a6, or maybe it has 110hp instead of 108hp.. 125 sounds a bit on the high side. |
