Let me rephrase that, is it just as good/the same as the 86 Corolla GTS or should I keep looking for a 86?

oh come on...
First, yes they did release it in Canada and the united states. In NA it was called the Corolla GTS. The 86 in the name AE86 has nothing to do with the year it was made, it's the chassis code. The GTS was made from 1984-87 with a few minor differences between model years. In fact, the true GTS doesn't even say AE86, instead it should be stamped with a AE88, if it says 86 it's an SR5 which is NOT an AE85, it's somewhere in between. Secondly, the levin was never released in NA, corollas were only available with flip up lights. Also, theres no such thing as a GTS sedan, it's available in hatch and coupe form. The coupe is the better coice as it had slightly better structural strength. And finally, don't buy this car because you think takumi and initial d are cool, or even realistic. The GTS is a great car, but it's slow as hell, very old, and will require maintenance on a regular basis. I'm not trying to be condesending but would just like to give a little forewarning. Thanks for all the info. I dont want to get one because of Initial D, Ive never seen it before, I just think there cooling look and sound like fun to drive. One reason I wanted to get the GTS is bacause I need a car that wont cost me $2000+ to insure.
Oh and nice signature, Michael's the man. |

Hey, no problem
![]() and don't mind the initial d comments, I've just had some bad experiences with some people who I played the Initial D arcade game with at my local arcade lately. Theres nothing wrong with liking Initial D, hell I have the every episode/OAV/Movie/whatever on VCD. It's not being able to distinguish between the cartoon and reality that's the problem ![]() Just browse around club4ag, they'll be able to help you with anything you need. Moto and everyone else over there are quite knowledgable and friendly.

Never spend more then $2,000 USD on an old corolla, its just a waste of money.

You can get good econmy car for $5000 or less. Maintenence costs will be minimal if you get a realiable car. Insurance will be cheap as well. You will have a car that will get you around and you'll be able to save money in order to buy a racer, project, or whatever car as a second car. Trust me, when all you have is a performance car that you race around in, sooner or later it will break and you will be stuck without a car.

Katsuhiro Ueo drove his Toyota Corolla GTS AE86 to win last years D1 Grand Prix, so I wouldn't call the car a pos. If you can get one for 3k(maybe see if you can talk the guy down some), you could use the remainder of the money to rebuild the power train(the most expensive part in upkeep of an older car) if you did it yourself. Otherwise you'd probably only get an engine rebuild done by somebody else for 2k. You aren't going to find much that can do anything for 5k without work, so I say go for it. I've been looking around to see if I can find one for cheap to overhaul. Would love to be able to find a 86 righty, but the chances of that are far and few between.

It is a piece of shit. Ueo's AE86 is highlu modified...
and he didnt win, Imamura did, he only won d1gp USA because stupid ass NOB went too fast. B16 Civic will smoke a 4AGE ![]() And don't ever bump a year old thread again. Learn to read dates, jesus christ Quote:

I really don't know what bug crawled up your ass, but you might want to see about having a surgeon remove it. You might want look into learning how to read a calendar too, because that post isn't a year old, it's not even 7 months old. You might want to do your homework too, because his car wasn't that heavily modified. So instead of flaming me like a wonderful example of a f***tard, you should think about what your typing before you type it.

rather have a trueno/corrola rather than a civic. if anything the civic is a pos. Taniguchi is a tupid ass?
for 5k you can always pick up an S13 or maybe an S14. Then youve got supras, old 3 series, Z31, mr2, sentra se-r (older ver.), 1G DSM's, and more i cant think of. nothing wickedly fast but enough to have some fun with and take down your avg. ricer |

Re: Looking for Takumi's AE86
What do you think the average 0-60 is on a 86?
