Re: GTR Racing Livery - Index

The orange paint went on the car when it was still racing in the British GT Series. There are a few twists to the story which have been covered here in the past. Ultimately it was never converted for road use despite some claims and indications to the contrary.

Hmm if #02R is street legal, where are the images of it?
#08R atleast Youtube has road clip of it, so more or less roadlegal, maybe Bahrain full racespec can be roadlegal, but maybe not in Europe...
#05R is staying racespecs?!

Interesting enough for me though . I plan to respray my diecast model of the Longtail GTR in orange; this adds further weight to the idea

#02R was told me by someone who know.
#08R by someone who drove it.

By the way; found this one couple of days ago, how right these informations are, meaning those chassis informations?
Quickly seen, nothing really seems to be wrong but Doc, Greg, Eric, Martin; could you check this also?

Re: GTR Racing Livery - Index

Guys, was there ever anything under the boot (frontal compartment) of the Mac GTRs ? I know that for road going Mac, there's a Kenwood stereo located inside the nose above the suspension, but what about the GTRs? And is it true that all Mac has hydraulics used in the butterfly doors' mechanism?

Re: GTR Racing Livery - Index

I couldn't locate any photos of a very early GTR with its bonnet cover off but here are some examples of what was there from about mid-1995 (Le Mans 24Hr race) onwards with most of them - in different states of disassembly of course. The sections of carbon tubing seen in some shots here channels air from the center of the nosepiece through the front section of the chassis and into hoses that cool the front brakes.

Yes - the GTRs also had the gas strut rod to keep the door open when it was lifted similar to what you'll find on many car's hatchback lids.

Re: GTR Racing Livery - Index

Hmm, very interesting. So you can actually remove the entire front bonnet off the car just like a Le mans GTP ?
How about the 2 covers for the exhaust compartments and the spoiler Peloton25? Is the spoiler supposed to be stuck onto the last rear cover like in this replication : http://www.legacydiecast.com/product.../aa81040_4.jpg ?
I am working on a modification to the UT diecast model of the car, so all these information are gold to me ! Thanks a lot mate

Re: GTR Racing Livery - Index

On a sidenote, do the pictures of the frontal compartments mean that the frontal boot cover is detachable from the car? Or should it be stuck onto the body with hinges hmm

Re: GTR Racing Livery - Index

The bonnet cover was always a separate piece - even into the longtail GTRs.

Unless there's some magic going on in this shot it seems that the early GTRs utilized some kind of hinge at the forward edge of the bonnet cover like the road cars have. Then a couple of Dzus-style fasteners near the top corners were used to keep it closed. It does appear that it was fairly easily separated from the car though.

Also located the shot I missed before of a GTR with the earlier style nose piece featuring those exposed NACA ducts and showing the bonnet cover off. Seems to be that the brake ductwork was there from the beginning as you can clearly see the connection points for it.

Sorry - responding out of order here.

Unlike on a standard F1 road car, the rearward engine cover that would normally be hinged and cover the catalysts was a separate removable panel on the GTRs, held on by four Dzus-style fasteners. Here you can see the panel coming off #07R during a pit stop at Le Mans in 1995.

The wing uprights go down and connect to some fixed parts of the rear bodywork structure on either side below.
