Can I just do an x2?

Really nice idea. How thick was the alu foil you used? i.e. was it "barbecue" thickness or "wrapping school sandwich" thickness?

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena, fully open

Oppppssss, toooooo hurry lately and I lost some sensational updates.

I'm mostly impressend by the openable engine hood pistons. You work really clean, man.

Congrats, lots of useful ideas and at last a superb result.

Need to clean up that finish now. 1st attempt.

Not bad...

...but not good enough! 2nd attempt. Just a couple of minutes or so, or the surface will start to get too pitted. The metal must be extremely clean for this or you will get nasty looking smudges and marks on it.

A nice even sheen.

AHA!!! Now we're talking
Hey nice touches... how did u actually remove the scratches , what exactly did u use?

I'll go with Steven's questions about the Aluminum sheet thickness, could you tell us more about it?

Really inspiring!
Any chance you got something that would inspire me enough to finish the Alpina B6 I'm working on?

I'd love to see what you need to inspire you to start the 905!

Re: Ferrari 360 Modena, fully open

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like the sills. Despite the brutal close-up snaps, they do look pretty effective at arm's length.

The material is KS .005" aluminium sheet. It's stiffer than kitchen foil but still quite easy to work with.

The scratches after the tooth-pasting were largely because I didn't prep it well enough, but the bottom line is that the tooth paste thing is just too damn slow, it was taking forever. The problem is that you can't really polish it before it's bent, and it can't take any stress after it's bent. I also wanted more of that frosty look and I remembered dunking an aluminium box in strong caustic soda once. The resulting concoction boiled and spewed and almost exploded (Warning: I'm serious, the reaction is incredibly violent and the gas that spews forth is highly noxious) But the box came out looking amazing!, all even, white and frosty. So I tried Clorox - basically the same idea (caustic etch) on a small scale. It's strong enough to remove light scratches. I did give it a light rubbing with micromesh first, but fear not, it will remove fine scratches ok.

Not sure he's allowed to post that here, if such a picture of a 905 has ever been taken!

Mark, thanks a lot or the info.
You might bet there will be an eruption sooner or later on my work desk!
