Re: 935 turbo Martini (hundreds of machined parts)

Hi Nino

I've been following your WIP since you started it and I'm always speechless to see the huge work you are doing on this kit.
I've never post before on this forum but since I'm working on a 1/12 scale model too (Ferrari F2002 Revell) I would like to ask you something that nobody asked so far : what hose clamps did you used on the turbo and cooling hoses. They are looking just like real ones and I would buy some for my actual project.
Thank you in advance for your answer.

By the way, I'm the webmaster of Jacky Ickx's website

Re: 935 turbo Martini (hundreds of machined parts)

Once more thank you for the comments, particularly for the great job developed on the Jacky Ickx's website :a lot of photos have been of fundamental importance for this build.
Saturday the temperature was good so a part of the paint job has been done, the spokes of the rear weels and the oil tank have received the same treatment and Alclad ll chrome has been spraypainted, but at the end the color don't satisfy me for the reason that results too glossy.Any suggestions ?

These are the pieces that form the front X brace , bolts ,nuts and other details have not been done yet, need another test fitting.

Try Alclad Stainless Steel on the Oil Tank it is a bit more toned down than Chrome. The rear wheels in the kit should not be silver or shiny at all they should a dark mixture of Gun Metal and Black, Testor's Exhaust metalizer is perfect with a coat of Semi-Gloss.

Re: 935 turbo Martini (hundreds of machined parts)

Thanks for this important information, I will surely try this weekend..
After two weeks of wait an essential reference book has arrived to me from the U.K. , it contains a lot of photos and seems to be a great book, this after a first glance, has to read to be more precise about it.

Re: 935 turbo Martini (hundreds of machined parts)

Update: during the assembly of the last turned pieces I have met some difficulties and I have had to do again the extinguishers and the front X brace bar. The extinguishers were too heavy having been obtained from a bar, the new pieces are each one built in two parts with an inside hole of lightening, the front X brace bar despite it was equal in the form with the original one it gave some problems of assembly, I have turned therefore the original one after having cutted the upper bar as it is a separate piece in the reference photo's.

the oil tank and oil cooler have received a layer of Testor's chrome mixed with burnt metal (metalizer) diluted with Humbrol thinner.

The X brace bar is ready for the paint job.

Re: 935 turbo Martini (hundreds of machined parts)

Hi Nino,

Great update, as ever.

Just to clarify, have you made the fire extinguishers hollow, so that they are lighter? Is weight a big problem?

In any case, the 2 pieces of the fire extinguishers fit together so well that the join is impossible to see! Bravo.

Oh, and the X brace bar looks superb.

Kind regards,
Bill

Re: 935 turbo Martini (hundreds of machined parts)

Thank you for the comments,Bill yes, the problem is the cantilever weight the plate (0,5 mm. thin and 1,5 mm.wide)that represent the extinguishers holder must support ,as you can see two grooves has been machined to receive later the extinguishers holder for an exact fit of the parts.
A male female coupling has been machined in each one of the 2 half that form an extinguisher to have a easy glueing.

Re: 935 turbo Martini (hundreds of machined parts)

Thank you for the clarification Nino. I understand now. It is a shame that those items you so lovingly fabricated will not be used, although I really admire the elegant solution you have come up with to lighten the gas cylinders and the male/female connection will surely keep them in place.

Regards,
Bill

Re: 935 turbo Martini (hundreds of machined parts)

For my curiosity I have wanted to weigh the three types of extinguishers, those of the kit weight 2 grams, those modified 5 grams and those not lightened 12 grams, in this way the weight is good compromise and i think to have solved the problem.

The rear spokes after a first coat only to verify the color match with the true aluminum, will have now to glue the parts , erase any junction and do the paint job with Testor's exhaust metalizer. I have had the confirmation of the correct affirmation of 935 K3s from a photo taken by the book Brookland's drawn by an article of the magazine R&T (comparison road test) where the three versions have been tested 930 street ,934 group 4 and 935 group 5;some test datum of the Martini group 5 : quarter mile covered in 8.9 sec ,0 -150 Mph in 11.0 sec and a top speed of 180 Mph all this in 1976!

That is still very, very quick even by today's. I guess modern improvements have not really been in straight line speed but in handling and braking.
