MKIV GTI - 1.8L Turbo
Curb Weight, lbs: 2723
HP: 180 TQ: 174
5-speed manual: 24city/31hwy

Personally, the look of the car is what is drawing me to it... rather than the horsepower. Still, doing research on WTF car to get, so many options. I remembered a friend of mine back in high school (dunno, he had money) had a mustard green MKIV Golf with the VR6 v6 engine, the smaller version of the r32... and I remember behind behind him one day on my way to school and noticed how quick he picked up compaired to me lol, sorta like.. eh wow. PLUS, tint on these cars always looks good along with a set of rims.

compairing it to available modding options with the newer MKV GTI 06+, theres TONS out... 350HP+ turbo build ups with out even touching the engine cept for pistons/rods and thats it.

I have find a good amount of them locally.. all being well under 20k... the highest I've see was almost $18,000 ... and it barley had 19,000 miles!

I think.... I might grab the 4th gen instead lol

Your thoughts?... Discuss!

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

I like the Challenger, but that GTI...
I'd need a bottle of oil and a shoe horn to get into it!

Oh yeah Gir, any technical schooling is worth it in the end.
Deciding what to do was the hard part for me.

I was just going to be a tech(mechanic) and working my a** off everyday, when I decided to get my service management degree too. Dont regret it for one minute.

Tuning is going to be more in demand as more and more electronics are being put on automobiles. Yeah!

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

I like the GTI's they are cool little cars... their stance is just right for a hatchback.. not too round but not too wagon looking. I would be careful on them that something doesn't happen to it.

Yes on that vid it is probably a rare occarance and very amazing that they had a video camera at the time that this all happened.

Hey I just noticed they moved all the smileys around again

Also I agree with Xi on the schooling thing. Technically school are always good and well paid in the job field ( for the most part) There are days i regret going for graphic design.. and others I dont. I'm considering going back myself for a trade of some sort. I don't know yet on what. I'm also aspiring to have my own business one day. We'll see what happens.

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

We'll actualy im in school. I've been updating my ase cert. for the Odb II/Can protocal (so I can keep up with everything and hav it on paper) systems.
Sometimes , I think that's all that matters is that stupid piece of paper. It sure doesnt mean you know anything and everything.
Nice thing is I dont hav to leave the house(not yet anyway), online is sweeet!

Well I found out my daughter didnt buy the Avenger yet she's just testing it out for a week. Its a 98 and white. Took it for a spin and its peppy but I dont like the way it steers... Less then 50k miles for $6000. I told her to offer them $4k , but not more then $5k, with half down.

TGIF !!!!
It's been the longest week ....
Have a great weekend everyone!

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Yes TGIF.... I'm starting to get a cold.... and just in time for me to help out at a craft fair tomorrow... oh joy! Well at least for me the week went by fast!

Xi so your daughter is looking at a 98 avenger... not bad. They can be pretty fast. I'm guessing she brought it to you for you to check it out. I can't believe that she has a week with it as a test drive. I've never been given that pleasure.

Yes piece of paper can mean so much to people... just like a $100.00 bill. just a piece of paper, but it can get you places.

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

Used 4th Gen VW Hatch:
VW Golf 1.8t - $14k-$18k
VW Golf VR6 - $15k-$19k
VW .:R32 - $22k-$26k

Been doing more and more looking, having a 4th gen .:R32 would be pretty flippin sweet... I would just have to stick with the grand am for a bit longer for a bigger down payment... I would really really have to get the payments down for my sort of income... I dont plan on moving out anytime soon (thx mom) untill I have finished college...

Financially I should get the cheapest... I can fit a vr6 in the budget

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

I would push for the VR6 or the r32 over the 1.8t.... then again the 1.8t isn't bad either... I dunno. I would get what you can afford and what you like.... within reason. And keep those gas prices in mind as they rise up again...

ok so I need to blow off some steam.... My manager just informed me that the new General manager got an e-mail that i sent to a client about him. How he got a hold of it I still can't figure this out. It's written in such a way that nothing bad is being said about him... I was very careful when i wrote it just for that reason alone. The only reason why i wrote this e-mail was because the client kept calling me freaking out that this new GM of mine was coming to our facilities and he was worried about his business being compromised. So I prolonged telling him as much as i could... until one day where the GM was trying to call MY client. So I sent a quick e-mail out to him stating yes he is here I know he deals with your partner, I liked dealing with you and continue business despite him being here. Apparently somehow he got this.... and now he wants to talk about it to my manager. The good thing is my manager has known about this situation for awhile and she told me lets prolong as much as we can... SOOO Yeah... Not what i needed to add to my day.

Re: Grand Am Off Topic Thread

I want that tesla coil above !!

Its been cold enough here to snow at night but got up to the 40's today. You just might get some snow Gir.
I was hoping for another warm spell over my way but I think the heat is gone.

I am going to attempt to make the GTs CAT highflo.
Figure I can make the holes larger. Thier is a risk of breaking the catalist and then I'd have to replace it or gut the Cat and deal with the SES light...... I need to order one of those DHPs this week anyway.
In the next couple weeks I'm going to do an EGR delete on the SE, and possibly a CAT delete.
I'm thinking I could get a few more HP that way.
