I saw the other day on either a post or podcast description talking about Internet forums and message boards slowing making a comeback. Social media kind of killed them because everybody went to Facebook, Reddit, Discord, and such for ease of use, being app accessible on smart phones, and everything was conglomerated together in one spot. Now people are moving away because they hate how restrictive those places are becoming.

Not sure how true that is but I found it interesting. I’m on a couple of other message boards but none will ever replace this one or the fun I had posting here in the early 2000s.

That makes sense… All those places are engaging in active censorship and starting to advertise heavily, with targeted advertising so I don't blame people for leaving and going to where they can see and say pretty much what they want, without being targeted by constant ads.

Example: Mrs Fred and I were recently talking about a certain product that we had never purchased but someone else had… Guess what product appeared within two hours in her Facebook feed?


And to expand the discussion, saw a Ted talk where the guy was discussing the problem with AI. He said that a drone can be over head of a city to look for certain things, but when linked with something artificial, it could track every car, person, and animal in the city and keep data on them for over two weeks… People can be identified by the way they move, the speed that they walk, etc. Handy to catch criminals but too invasive for my liking.

I received an AF message in my email to wish me a happy birthday, needless to say every year i just dump it in the trash but, 20 years have gone by would you believe?? Today, i logged back in, same account, and see all of my old messages. AND it even says

My profile even states aol and Icq etc usernames which are completely not even around.
How is everyone?

That's funny. I know what you mean. I get congratulatory messages from my ISP all the time. I'm tired of blocking the number.
