Guy this is just glorious work! To take a 30 year old kit and make it like this is just amazing.

I am glued to this thread!opcorn:

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

I assembled and even painted the front rollbar included in the kit, but it couldn't convince me. To look like a real metal construction I have to paint it with Alclad, having the disadvantage that touching the part removes some paint every time, or I have to assemble the part with real metal rods. I decide to go for the last possibility.

This is SUPERB. But I know the magic problem. There more you study the real subject - the more you want to enhance the kit. The more you enhance - the (much) more time it takes to finish the project.

Guy, wonderfull work! I have a question, what glue do you use to glue the top of the tub to the bottom half? Is this the same glue you use for all pre painted pieces?
Malc.

Indeed. I always use superglue, except for transparant parts, where I use 2 component epoxy glue.

Hey Guy that wristwatch parts collection seems to be a magic bag!
Looks great and good job on the roll bar too! Metal is always better than plastic made to look like metal isn't it!? :-)

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

I had the opportunity to take a closer look at the real model yesterday and I can report that it looks wayyy much better in real then on the images here, and I know the images do look great already...

If perfection does not exist, this is getting darn close.

absolutely beautiful work. the front suspension is fantastic - nice engineering and detailing of the kit parts.

Re: WIP: McLaren M23 - 1976 - Hunt (Tamiya 1:20)

Once the dashboard is built, I can give the rear side a wash with Tamiya smoke. I have to do this now because it would be a whole lot more difficult once the wiring has been attached.

I'm just loving this model. About the only thing that would make it better for me would be the number 40.

That is just looking incredible. I'm planning to tackle an F1 soon, but I'm not sure I can do it that kind of justice! Keep it up - waiting for more...

If I ever find a second McLaren for a reasonable price, I will build it again in memoriam of Gilles, who passed away 25 years ago at Zolder, about 25 kms from where I live...
