Might be inheriting a '88 325

After it gets its clutch replaced, what can I do to wring some performance out of the 1988 325 (no letter designation). Is it a car worth keeping and possibly autocrossing? I really do love the looks of the E30 and earlier beamers as opposed to the sleek lines of todays, so I'd enjoy holding onto it. It has 100K miles on it and I'm wonder how much more it is good for?

Hey,

nice inherting an E30 - for info visit http://www.bmwe30.net

click on Articles and Tips then on Specifications. the 325 has the M20B27 engine in it, so that what you should look at. as you will see there it is not much of a performer, more built for economy and efficency.

for E30s and all bimmers you just need to take care of them. i have seen E30's die at 60k miles and some as far along as 300k. just remember to take care of it and keep up with maintenance. most bimmer mechanics tell you to keep bimmers in top shape drive them hard and take care of them.

BTW, a beamer is a BMW motorcycle, and Bimmer is a BMW car.
