Ramps for front-end work

anyone have those metal ramps you let you car drive onto to lift the front end?


1. Does the lip spoiler (WW type) hit the ramp when raising/lowering?
2. How much are those things? (will check autozone..but)
3. Any recommendations as to substitues? 2x4's cut in 30degree angles x 4 pices together per side do the job?

thanx. need to put on my lip spoiler, but don't feel like using a jack.

Future mods: dressup wheels with Potenza S03 225/45/17 tires, TurboXS UTec, maybe an uppipe. by then, it'll be fast enough.

$27 at AutoZone

I think I paid $27 at AutoZone for a set of sturdy yellow ones. The front lip didn't clear it so I put a pair of 2x4s in front of the ramp to get it up enough to clear. DON'T USE 2x4s TO SUPPORT YOUR CAR! (I know you wouldn't, but I had to say it). Once I'm past the 2x4s I'm sitting on solid steel of the ramps. You also have to watch for anything you drive over to slip out and launch itself across the garage so be careful.

As long as we're on the topic, I have a silly question... If you want to jack up all four wheels, are jack stands really safe? It didn't look like it to me, so I am using these monster wooden blocks but they don't get it up as high as the jack stands. I haven't done much work on cars, but it just didn't look safe to crawl under something I can't (quite ;-) bench press when it was up on four jack stands. I had this image of my wife coming out and leaning on the car while I was working on it and collecting the life insurance.

b4dr- thanx for the input. yah, I wouldn't just put my car on just 2x4's. it would be bolted together with huge nuts so that they would not collapse. yah, I was thinking that the lip would not clear the ramp especially since my P11 is lowered about 2inches. that pre-lift idea is good...actually I do that to that my hydraulic jack can get under the car.

yah, I dont trust those jack stands myself, so whenever I need to do exhaust work, I take it to a local shop and have them lift it for me. midas will usually let you fiddle around on your car if it's not too long... but aftermarket exhaust install's like $50, so id just let them do it for me.
