Side Window Installation

Spent some time yesterday making and installing a side window in the car. Am hoping that this will cut noise, improve aeros and keep us a little warmer over 6 hour race.

Took a bit of time but not hard to install. Used same material as window to make up some tabs that are riveted to the body. Used 5 dzus fasteners to fasten window to tabs. 3/4" overlap at bottom of window tucks in behind top of door. Will make one up for the drivers side at a later date that will be for sealing car up for travelling only.

Re: Side Window Installation

The window looks great but you should look at getting the latches that they use on the nascar cars just in case you have a problem, that way a corner worker can pop it out. You can get the latches at BSR products.

Really nice; Is the window flat or did you have to bow/form it for the fit? Since you will also use for transporting, will you be making a pliable rubber lip to keep the rain from running inside the door?

Uwe, the window was heated in an oven and curved to fit the contour of the window aperture. I will probably use a seal on the inside of the door as suggested to cut water ingress. Main focus at the moment is noise reduction and improved aero's, trailering focus will come when I have the 6 hour out of the way. When I look at this I will do another window for the drivers side which will probably have a simpler fixing set up.

Uwe, the window is aircraft grade polycarb. Same material and thickness that I have used for my windscreen (.190").

No former was made Uwe, I have an aircraft shop nearby that makes up canopys. They have molded both my windscreen (using broken old glass screen) and the side windows. I supplied a curvature form and they produced across something they already have. Great thing is that thier pricing is really reasonable as well so very cost effective.

Re: Side Window Installation

Hello Kel,

Not sure if you are still getting notices from this board, but could you repost the picture of your window solution. I need to do the same thing,

Thank you.
